KL Rahul, who is also considered one of the most stylish cricketers in the Indian team and one of the few who knows how to change the pace of the game according to the need, is now leading his team, the Lucknow Super Giants, as a captain. Childhood and Early life:

Kannanur Lokesh Rahul was born on April 18, 1992, in Bangalore, to KN Lokesh (his father) and Rajeshwari (his mother). He has a younger sister, Bhavna. He belongs to a highly educated family, where his father works as a professor and was the former director at the National Institute of Technology, Karnataka. and his mother works as a history professor at Mangalore University.

KL Rahul started playing cricket at the very young age of 10 and soon started playing for the Bangalore United cricket club. He had his schooling at NITK English Medium School and Pre-University at St. Aloysius College; later, he moved to Jain University in Bangalore to pursue his higher studies and cricket career.

International Career

ODI debut:

KL Rahul made his ODI debut in the year 2016 against Zimbabwe, and in the same tour he made his T20 debut as well. Though his ODI form went for an upward curve in that series, the T20 series didn’t start well as he got out on a duck, but in the same year, he made his first T20I century against West Indies.

Test Debut:

In 2014, Rahul made his test debut against Australia. His debut match didn’t go well, but in his second test match, he made his maiden test century and proved his worth in the team. Later, he played against the West Indies and England as well, where he displayed his batting skills and added further centuries to his name.

IPL Career so far:

KL Rahul made his IPL debut in 2013 when he was inducted into the Royal Challengers Bangalore, and in 2014 he became part of the Sunrisers Hyderabad and played decently in that season. In the year 2016, he was repurchased by RCB, and this year he was in sublime form and ended up as the 11th-highest run-scorer in the tournament. Later in 2018, he started playing for Punjab Kings (formerly Kings XI Punjab) and broke the record of Sunil Narine for the fastest fifty in the IPL; it took him only 14 balls to achieve this milestone.

In 2019, still playing for the same franchise, he made his maiden IPL ton, and from 2022 he will now lead the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) as captain.

  • He became the first Indian cricketer to score a century on his ODI debut against Zimbabwe in 2016.
  • KL Rahul also holds the record of being the first Indian cricketer to be out hit wicket in a T20I.
  • He became the first Indian cricketer to score seven consecutive half centuries in test cricket.
  • KL Rahul is the only other cricketer from Mangalore to play for India’s test team. The first one was Budhi Kunderan.
  • His spot as the fastest Indian to score a T20I century was taken away by Rohit Sharma in 2017 by hitting a hundred in just 35 balls.
  • He is the fastest cricketer to score centuries in all three international formats of the game; it took him just 20 innings to do that.

Personal and Social life of KL Rahul:

KL Rahul recently got married to Athiya Shetty, who is the daughter of the legendary Bollywood actor Sunil Shetty. They have been in a relationship for about 4 years after their first meeting through a mutual friend back in 2019. The couple tied the knot on January 23, 2023.

KL Rahul remains fairly active on social media and loves sharing updates with his followers, even once when he lands himself in trouble.

KL Rahul’s Controversies:

KL Rahul, back in 2016 when team India toured the West Indies, shared an image of himself partying with his teammates and holding a beer bottle in his hand, which wasn’t liked by the BCCCI as it would negatively impact the image of the cricketers. After raising the objection, KL Rahul removed the picture from his social media handles.

In the year 2019, KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya were suspended by the BCCI for their sexist comments on the popular talk show “Koffee with Karan”, The suspension was removed by the BCCI in the same month, and KL Rahul got the chance to re-join the squad.
