Korou Singh Thingujam Appointed Captain of India U-17 Football Team Ahead of AFC U-17 Asian Cup Thailand 2023

Korou Singh Thingujam was appointed captain of the India U-17 Football Team ahead of the AFC U-17 Asian Cup Thailand 2023.

On Tuesday, June 13, 2023, the India U-17 Football Team announced Korou Singh Thingujam as their new captain for the upcoming AFC U-17 Asian Cup. The 16-year-old wide attacking midfielder from Manipur was handed the captaincy to lead his team into a tournament that will be hosted in Thailand this year.

The news came as a pleasant surprise to the players, who were ecstatic to receive their AFC U-17 Asian Cup kits. Head coach Bibiano Fernandes expressed his faith in Korou’s abilities and said that he was sure that the young midfielder has what it takes to lead India and win in the tournament.

Korou was all smiles during the presentation of the match kits and expressed his gratitude to Coach Fernandes for bestowing upon him the honour of leading India in the tournament.

“I’m grateful that my coach has chosen me to lead such an incredible team,” said Korou. “It’s a huge responsibility, but I’m sure I can do it with everyone’s support.”

He added, “I’m ready to give my all and work hard for the team. We are one unit and together we can achieve great things.”

Korou’s teammates were equally enthused about the news of his appointment as their captain. Midfielder Sunil Kumar said, “We are really excited to have Korou as our captain. He is a great player and his leadership qualities are unmatched. He will definitely help us to reach our dream of winning the tournament.”

Korou, who was selected in the India U-17 Football Team at the age of 15, has already made a name for himself with his impressive performances on the pitch. With his appointment as captain, it looks like this will be just the beginning of many more successes in his career.
