Indian Govt and AIFF allowed the Pakistan football teams to take part in SAFF Cup
AIFF cleared the ban from Pakistan football teams after 5 years, and the secretary general of AIFF said that they had done their part by clearing Pakistan to participate in the eight-nation regional tournament.
All Indian Football Federation (AIFF) cleared the Pakistani team to play with other nations in the South Asian Football Federation Cup(SAFF). Shaji Prabhakaran, the secretary general of AIFF, said that now it’s on Pakistan how they will take their step forward into the league as India has done its part to allow Pakistan’s football team to come to India for the first time in 5 years.
“Yes, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of External Affairs and Sports Ministry all have cleared (Pakistan’s participation),”
“We have done our part. We welcome them (Pakistan). All the participating countries have got visa clearance. They have to do their part of the visa formalities.”

The last time India and Pakistan football teams played against each other was in the 2018 SAFF Championship semi-final match in which the Indian football team won the match 3-1 against the Pakistan football team to reach the final, but that year, lost to the Maldives football team in the final by 2-1.
There are a total of eight teams in the SAFF Championship tournament- India, Kuwait, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, Pakistan, Lebanon, and Maldives.
The group stage is divided into groups A and B, which will play 1 match against each other. The top 2 teams from both groups will compete in a semi-final match and then a final to decide the champion of SAFF 2023.
India and Pakistan are in the same group and will play their first match of the tournament against each other on June 21st, 2023, and the match will start from 7:30 pm/IST onwards.
India is the defending champion of SAFF as they won the title in 2021 against Nepal in the final. India is also won the title 8 times, which is the most by any country that participated in SAFF. The tournament was first played in 1993, and it is going to be the 14th edition of SAFF in 2023.
