Ministry of Sports allowed Indian Football Team to participate in Asian Games 2023

Indian Football Men’s and Women’s teams will be in Asian Games 2023 after nine years, as the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs allowed the team to participate in the upcoming Asian Games 2023 on July 26, 2023.

The Asian Games is being hosted by China this year in Hangzhou, and it will start on 23rd September and will end on 8 October 2023. All the fans and football management were very upset because the Ministry of Sports said that any team which is above 8 ranks would not participate in the Asian Games. Recently Indian Football Team won three titles, including Tri-Nation Series, Intercontinental Cup, and the 2023 SAFF Championship on their home soil.

Anurag Thakur, the minister of Sports and Youth Affairs, announces the happy news for all the fans and players that they can compete in the Asian Games. AIFF President Kalyan Chaubey thanked the movement and the Ministry of Sports for letting the player have the opportunity to play in a high level of competition.

“Indian Football has been on an unprecedented rise recently, and I believe this impetus will further boost our players’ morale in all upcoming events. It’s my honour to represent the All India Football Federation and with moments like this, it further encourages our steadfast commitment to continue developing the ecosystem in the country.”

The head coach Igor Stimac also wrote a statement thanking Anurag Thakur and the government for the opportunity and for letting both males and females participate in the competition. In the past Indian Men’s Football team was champion in the first Asian Games when they grabbed gold in 1951 and one more goal in 1962. After that, in 1970, they won the bronze medal, and this year is going to be special for the Indian football team and nation because the nation came in full support of the team as they did on many social platforms to request the higher authority to let the team play in the Asian Games.
