Indian Football Asian Games 2023 Schedule and Team List

The schedule of the Asian Games football is out, and India Football Team is in the same group as China, Bangladesh, and Myanmar. The Women’s Indian Football team is in Group B with Chinese Taipei and Thailand.

India will face the toughest challenge against the host country China, which is one of the favorites to win the gold and have some serious talent. They have also been part of the FIFA World Cup once in 2002, in which they lost all the matches.

India is not the favorite to win the gold, but still, they are one of the top teams that can win the tournament. Sunil Chhetri is likely to lead the team. The other top teams who will be favorites to win the gold are- Japan, South Korea, and China.

South Korea won the gold last time when they played against Japan in the Asian Games 2018 by a 2-1 scoreline. However, India can go for Bronze at least because of the form they have in the recent tournament, as they won two Asian tournaments in which they defeated teams like Kuwait. It will be a huge boost for the Indian Football Team to play against teams like Japan and South Korea, who are regular in the FIFA World Cup events.

The men’s team has a glorious history in the Asian Games, winning two gold medals (1951 and 1962) and one bronze medal (1970). However, they have been unable to maintain their success recently and have skipped the last edition in 2018 due to the ranking criteria. The women’s team has played only twice in the Asian Games, finishing eighth in 1998 and ninth in 2014.

Indian Women’s Football is also on the rise as they ranked up to 60 in the latest FIFA Ranking, and they are in the tougher group compared to Men’s team as they are in Group B with Chinese Taipei, who are right now 37th rank in the world and Thailand 44 rank in the world clearly indicates that Indian Women’s needs to do wonder to reach the further stage because the top team will be going to get the spot in the next round.

In the past Indian Men’s Football team was champion in the first Asian Games when they grabbed gold in 1951 and one more goal in 1962. After that, in 1970, they won the bronze medal. The schedule came just after some time when the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs allowed the Indian Football Team to participate in the Asian Games.
