FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023: Day 2 results of all the fixtures on July 21st, 2023
Day 2 of FIFA Women’s world cup 2023 ended with some exciting results and some amazing performances by a few players.
Nigeria 0-0 Canada
The first match of the day was between Nigeria and Canada in Group B, which ended up as a draw just because of an amazing penalty kick save by the goalkeeper of Nigeria, Chiamaka Nnadozie. The match was held in the Melbourne Rectangular Stadium, which had almost full attendance.
The match was intense as both sides’ defensive plays were their batter unit and some chances both teams missed when they got an opportunity to score. Canada’s captain Christine Sinclair won the penalty in the 48th minute but missed her chance to give her time lead.
If Sinclair had scored, then she would have the record of the oldest player to score in any major events in women’s football history, but she missed as the captain of Nigeria saved the day for her country by diving low to her left to deflect the ball going in the net. It was Nigeria’s first draw in international matches since the last 27 women’s world cup matches.
The captain of Nigeria was given the player of the match after an amazing penalty save in the 49th minute of the match. Both country coaches have their say after the match.

Philippines 0-2 Switzerland
The second match was between the Philippines and Switzerland, in which the Swiss side won by 2-0 to look forward to the round of 16. It was not a tough match for Switzerland’s side against the debut team in the world cup Philippines.
Ramona Bachmann scored the first goal from the penalty spot because, in the 44th minute, Coumba Sow was tackled hard in the Philippines penalty box, which gave the Swiss side penalty kick that the experienced Bachmann converted. The second goal was scored by Serania Piubel in the 64th minute when she got an opportunity on a rebound.
Spain 3-0 Costa Rica
The third match favored one of the world cup favorites, Spain, as they dominated Costa Rica, scoring 3 goals in under 30 minutes. It was an easy win for the Spanish side, but Costa Rica did holder up after being 3-0 down to Spain.
The first goal was scored by Costa Rica’s own player Del Campo then the second goal was scored by the midfielder of pain Bonmati in the 23rd minute of the match, which gave Spain a 2-0 lead in under 25 minutes.
Gonzalez scored the third goal to show Spain’s team skills and strength against Costa Rica, but after the third goal, the defensive work of Costa Rica lifted up, and they did not let the Spanish players score any more goals.
