PCB’s chief Zaka Ashraf changes his stance on Hybrid Model
PCB’s chairman Zaka Ashraf takes a U-turn from his previous statements of rejecting the Hybrid model by saying that nothing can be done now as the ACC has accepted the Hybrid model and he wouldn’t try to interfere any more with that decision, Asian Cricket Council has recently approved the long-awaited Hybrid model proposal of PCB and now Asia Cup 2023 will be hosted by Pakistan and Sri Lanka jointly earlier the entire tournament was going to held in Pakistan but India’s cricket board BCCI opposed to sending team India to Pakistan citing security concerns the influential board tried gaining the confidence of other countries board and there were speculations that the entire tournament would be shifted to some other country where Sri Lanka was the front runner but that didn’t happen at last and ACC accepted the hybrid model.
In the hybrid model, out of a total of 13 matches, four would be played in Pakistan, and the rest would be hosted by the island nation of Sri Lanka. Pakistan was getting a chance to host a big tournament after a long time, but now they will jointly host it with Sri Lanka. Though Zaka Ashraf earlier rejected the PCB’s own given model, now taking a 360-degree turn, he accepted that and said that he would not try to disrupt the tournament. Speaking on ESPNcricinfo, he said
“In my personal opinion, this whole hybrid model isn’t beneficial for Pakistan and I didn’t like it,” “Being a host, Pakistan should have negotiated better to make sure that the entire tournament should have played in Pakistan. Sri Lanka taking the bigger lot of games, leaving Pakistan with only four games, isn’t in the best interest of our country”
“But I see the decision has been made, so we have to go with it. I will not block or have any intention not to comply with the decision. I cannot do much about it but to honour the commitment. But going forward, every decision we make will be made for and in the interest of the country.”
