PCB’s likely president, Zaka Ashraf, rejects the hybrid model of the Asia Cup 2023:
Zaka Ashraf, who is likely going to be the next president of the Pakistan Cricket Board, shocked the Asian Cricket Council after stating that the PCB would not accept the Hybrid Model that the ACC had given the green light for. The Asian Cricket Council has recently approved the Hybrid Model for the Asia Cup 2023, in which some matches will be played in Pakistan and some in Sri Lanka. All the matches of India will be played in Sri Lanka, as the main concern of the BCCI was the Indian players security, due to which the board was reluctant to send team India to Pakistan, and that’s where the whole fiasco started. Then Pakistan came up with the Hybrid Model to at least host some matches in the Asia Cup 2023.
The Asian Cricket Council has accepted the Hybrid model, and the Asia Cup 2023 will be co-hosted by Pakistan and Sri Lanka, but now fresh changes in the Pakistan Cricket Board give rise to a new issue. PCB’s likely chief Zaka Ashraf, in a blunt statement on the hybrid model, said:
The first point is that I had rejected the hybrid model (for Asia Cup) in the past itself – because I do not agree with it. The board of the Asian Cricket Council had decided that it should be held in Pakistan, then we should host it,”
Zaka Ashraf said in a press conference
ACC has a firm stance on the matter and even said that they are not worried about the statements coming from PCB and that the decision regarding the hosting of the event has already been made. Zaka Ashraf is free to say whatever he wants.
