Washington Sundar, the key player of Sunrisers Hyderabad, is out of the IPL 2023 season due to a Hamstring injury. That is going to create a huge problem for the Sunrisers’s side, who already have their back against the wall in the IPL 2023 as they are in the 2nd last spot in the points table.
The Indian spinning all-rounder just gave his best performance in the previous match against the Delhi Capitals and took 3 wickets in that match. He also scored 24 runs in 15 balls in the same match but failed to take his team over the winning rope. Washington Sundar till now played seven matches in which he scored 60 runs and took three wickets, but the sad part is that most of his runs and all three wickets come in his previous match.
Sunrisers Hyderabad released a video of him leaving the camp.
Washington Sundar and his IPL Injury Saga
This is not the first time that Washington Sundar has been ruled out of the IPL season due to injury. In the past two seasons of IPL, 2021 and 2022 were also the downfall of Washington Sundar, who was ruled out of the IPL due to injury.
Washington Sundar suffered from a finger injury in IPL 2021, which ruled him out of the 2021 season. He was with Royal Challengers Bangalore team in IPL 2021, which was held in UAE due to the pandemic. In that season, he took three wickets in six matches, but because he injured his finger during the season, he had to sit off for the whole season of IPL 2021.
“The move reiterates the focus RCB has on grooming and nurturing young players as the team continues to develop exceptional talents and create a pathway for young talents to find their way into IPL and Indian Cricket,”
The Royal Challengers’ management said in a statement.
In IPL season 2022, Washington Sundar once again got injured due to a hand injury, and later he also missed the ODI series against the Zimbabwe side, which was one of the downfalls in his career because he was doing well for the Indian team at the international level.
“Washington has torn the webbing in his right hand, between his thumb and first finger,” and “We must monitor that over the next two-three days. Hopefully, it isn’t a significant blow. I’d imagine it’d take probably a week or so to settle down.”
Moody said in a statement
Now he once again picked an injury, and this time it is a hamstring injury which led him to rule out from the IPL 2023, and this is a huge blow for a struggling team like Sunrrisers Hyderabad.
Players to replace Washington Sundar in Sunrisers Hyderabad Team
It is going to be a tough time for Sunrisers Hyderabad to replace Washington Sundar in the middle of the Indian Premier League 2023, but there are some players who can replace him in the team.
Mayank Dagar
Mayank Dagar was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad team for Rs. 2.6 Crore in the 2023 auction. He is from Delhi and already played one match in IPL for the Sunrisers Hyderabad against the Punjab Kings on April 21, 2023, in which he bowled three overs but went wicketless.
He has decent first-class T20 league stats in which he played 45 matches, and in 17 innings, he scored 72 runs. He also took 44 wickets in 45 balls which shows that he is a decent left-arm spin all-rounder.
Vivrant Sharma
Vivrant Sharma is another option for the Sunrisers Hyderabad team, who bought him in IPL Auction 2023 for 2.6 Crore rupees which is a hefty amount for an uncapped player whose base price was 20 Lakhs. However, he is more of a batting all-round, which Sunrisers need right now because their batting department is not working well.
He played 11 matches in Vijay Hazare Trophy, in which he scored 435 runs with an average of 43.50 and took five wickets also. He also played in the 3 domestic T20 league matches in which he scored 65 runs with a strike rate of 154.7 and took 2 wickets.
Abdul Samad
He has already played in IPL many times but failed to be consistent with the bat, as the highest number of runs he scored in the 28 matches he played is 33, which is not a good number. Abdul Samad was bought by the Sunrisers Hyderabad side for a whopping 4 crore in IPL Auction 2023 because of his power-hitting ability.
In the domestic T20 league, he played 6 matches, scored 183 runs with an average of 61, and had a strike rate of 164, but till now, he did not impress the side in IPL 2023 season. He scored 62 runs in 3 matches, and the main issue was his strike rate, which was 114, which was why he was dropped from the team after three matches.
