Umesh Kumar Tilak Yadav was born on October 25, 1987, in Nagpur, Maharashtra, to Tilak Yadav (his father) and the late Kishori Devi (his mother). Playing cricket was not in his mind at that time, though he played with a tennis ball, and when he grew up, he wanted to join the military or Police forces, but unfortunately, he couldn’t clear the criteria required to get selected in the security forces because destiny had other plans for him. His college didn’t include him in the college team as he was not playing for any club at that time.
In 2007, Umesh Yadav joined Vidaarbha Gymkhana Club and started playing leather ball. Vidarbha team captain Pritam Gandhe supported him, recognised his talent, and gave him opportunities to improve.

Domestic Career:
Umesh Yadav’s domestic career started in 2008, when he made his first-class debut while playing against Madhya Pradesh while representing Vidarbha in the Ranji Trophy. In his first match, though he didn’t bowl in the second innings, he took 4 wickets, but that was not enough, and his team lost that match. In his first season, he took 20 wickets in the four matches he played. In that year, he was also selected for the central zone to make his one-day debut in the Duleep Trophy, and still whenever he is out of international cricket, he plays for the state team.
IPL Career:
After his performance in domestic cricket, he was selected in the IPL in 2010 and became part of the Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) and played for the same franchise for four years. In 2012, he was the fourth highest wicket taker in that year, picking 19 wickets in 17 matches played. In 2014, he became part of the Kolkata Knight Riders and played for the team for four seasons and won the title in his first season with the team. Later, he was released by the KKR. In 2018, he played for RCB and later for Delhi Capitals. As of now, he is in the Kolkata Knight Riders.
Interantional Career:
Umesh Yadav had his international ODI debut in 2010 and played his first International match against Zimbabwe. His debut was not something special for him as he failed to take even one wicket in the match. After that, he got to play his next international match against England in September 2011. He was selected on the Indian squad for a 5-match ODI series, but he played only 3 matches and took 4 wickets.
Umesh Yadav’s debut in International test cricket happened in 2011 when he was included in the Indian squad to play against the West Indies. He failed to take wickets in the first innings of the first test match but got two wickets in the second innings of the match. In total, he took nine wickets in the two-match test series. Seeing him performance, selectors gave him an opportunity to play against Australia in the test series. On overseas soil, he played all four test matches and took 14 wickets in the series, including a wicket in the third test match.
He made his T20I debut against Sri Lanka in 2012, and though he has so far played only nine T20I matches, the last being against South Africa, he managed to take 12 wickets in T20I.
