UK PM Rishi Sunak Supported Ben Stokes and accuses Australia for violating Spirit of Game.
Since Day 5 of the Ashes series Test 2, the “Spirit of Game” debate has reignited. Cricket fans, experts, and former captains have all jumped into this debate and shared their opinions on the controversial run out of Jonny Bairstow. On Day 5 of the Test 2, England’s captain Ben Stokes was playing the captain’s innings, and Ben Duckett was supporting his captain from the other end, but when Ben Duckett got out, Jonny Bairstow came to the crease, and when he was playing at 10, he ducked a bouncer bowled by Cameron Green that went straight to the wicketkeeper Alex Carey’s hand. Bairstow, after ducking the ball without looking at the wicketkeeper, started walking towards Ben Stokes, leaving his crease, and Alex Carey, without missing the chance, threw the ball towards the stumps and Bairstow got run out, after looking at the replay third umpire decided that he was out, and from this incident, the “Spirit of Game” came into play.
Ben Stokes showed his disappointment in the run-out incident and said a few words about it.
“If the shoe was on the other foot I would have put more pressure on the umpires and asked whether they had called over and had a deep think about the whole spirit of the game. Would I want to win a game in that manner? The answer for me is no,”
