Malaysian Bowler Syazrul Idrus created history in T20I becomes first male cricketer to do this…

A record-breaking performance by Malaysian pace bowler Syazrul Idrus left everyone stunned as the right-arm bowler scalped seven wickets in a T20I match. In the opening game of the T20 World Cup Asia B qualifier against China, Syazrul Idrus bowled out seven players of the opposition in the match, conceiving just 8 runs in his spell. He now has the best T20I bowling figures (7/8). Malaysia went on to secure a thumping victory over China after Malaysia inflicted an all-out on them. They got all out for just 23 runs in 11.2 overs, and Malaysia reached the target of 24 runs in just 4.5 overs with the loss of two wickets, claiming the victory in the opening match.

Earlier, the best bowling figure in a male T20I match was that of Peter Aho of Nigeria. He took six wickets for just five runs against Sierra Leone in 2021, and India’s swing bowler Deepak Chahar is also on the list of top bowling figures in T20Is; he took six wickets for seven runs against Bangladesh. Though he is the first male cricketer to do this, he is not the first overall in international cricket, as Netherlands player Frederique Overdijk was the first player to take seven wickets in a T20I match. She took seven wickets against the France (W) team in 2021, not only her, Argentina’s Alison Stocks also did the same task, claiming 7/3 against Peru.

But Syazrul Idrus became the first male cricketer to do this. When he came to bowl his first over, it was a wicketless over, but in his second over, he started the wicket-fest as the bowler took 4 wickets in his second over and went on to claim a fifer during the powerplay, and in his last over, he took two wickets to become the first male cricketer to have 7 wickets in a single match in T20I.
