Sunil Gavaskar thrashes overseas commentators for their double standards, defends Indian fans.
India’s former captain Sunil Gavaskar lambasted English commentators’ Condescending remarks on Indian fans amid the Ashes 2023. Since the Ashes 2023 began, the intensity, heat, drama, debates on the spirit of cricket, on-field sledging, etc. have added so much spice to this grand test series between England and Australia. Home team England has opened their win account in the series by claiming Test 3 on Day 4 at Headingley, keeping the hopes of claiming the Ashes 2023 alive for England amid the series. Sunil Gavaskar pointed out the double standards of the English commentators by saying that it is natural that the crowd will support the home team like England’s crowd is supporting the home team, but when these commentators come to India, they point at Indian fans for being quiet when an Indian batter gets out or an Indian bowler hits for a boundary, which is double standards for them.
Sunil Gavaskar, while writing in his column for Mid-Day (an Indian Newspaper), slammed English Commentators for their remarks on Indian fans. He wrote:
It’s only natural that the crowds will support their own team and won’t cheer the opponents, but to suggest that it happens only in India is ridiculous. This is not an Indian phenomena, but happens in every country where home crowds keep silent when a boundary is hit against their bowlers or their batters get out,”
Sunil Gavaskar
Nowhere has it been more apparent than at the current Ashes series. What bugs is the condescending way, overseas commentators, when they come to India, keep saying how quiet the Indian crowd at the ground is when an Indian batter gets out or when an Indian bowler is hit for a boundary,”
He further added
England is now looking confident, and the change done by the England team by giving opportunity to Mark Wood in place of James Anderson worked as the pacer claimed 7 wickets and also scored crucial 40 runs for his team, and England are now 1-2 in the Ashes 2023.
