“I still had a lot of cricket in me” Shikha Pandey disappointed after being left out from team for Bangladesh tour.
BCCI, recently announced India’s women’s squad for the upcoming T20 and ODI series in Bangladesh, and some big names were not included in the team. One of those was Shikha Pandey, who is one of the most experienced players in the Indian team and also had a wonderful inaugural WPL season playing for Delhi Capitals. She finished as their leading wicket taker with 10 wickets in 9 matches, and her team also reached the finals of the WPL 2023. Still, she didn’t get the chance to be in the team for the Bangladesh tour. She was dropped from the Indian squad during the ICC World Cup 2022, which left Jhulan Goswami without any experienced pace support.
Shikha Pandey appeared for the Wynnum-Manly Cricket Club, Australia, and scored a century in her debut for the club, plus she took two wickets in her first match. She made a comeback earlier this year for India during the T20 World Cup, but after that, she was excluded from the central contract, and now she is not being part of the India squad for the Bangladesh tour. After the BCCI announced the 18-player squad, when she didn’t find her name, she was disappointed, and while talking to former head coach WV Raman, she accepted that she was feeling sad but would do more hard work to make a comeback in the team.
“If I say I’m not frustrated and angry, then I’m not a human being. It’s difficult when you don’t get the results for the work that you have put in. I’m sure there’s some reason behind it which I do not know. What’s in my hands is hard work, and I’m a stout believer in hard work. So it’s just about working hard until I am mentally and physically fit.
You thought I still had a lot of cricket left in me, and I should play until the time I enjoy the sport. I’m disappointed right now, but the situation I’m put in is out of my control, the decisions I take to get out of it are completely in my hands”.
Shikha Pandey to Sportstar.
