Rohit Sharma becomes India’s fifth highest run scorer surpassed MS Dhoni.
India’s captain Rohit Sharma, after the second test against the West Indies at Port of Spain, has now surpassed the former Indian Captain MS Dhoni in terms of scoring runs in international Cricket. Rohit Sharma, the team’s captain, opened strong with Young talent Yashasvi Jaiswal, as both hit their fifties in the match and had a partnership of 139 runs before Yashasvi Jaiswal got out on 57. Rohit continued his innings and took it to 80 runs, and with that, he also became the fifth highest run-scorer from the Indian team in international cricket; he surpassed MS Dhoni, who scored 17,092 runs in 535 matches. Rohit Sharma, after getting out on 80, scored 17,298 runs.
India on the first Day of the second Test was looking strong as both openers scored runs for the team, but West Indies fought back and picked up four wickets in quick succession. Virat Kohli, who was playing his 500th International match, handled the situation and batted accordingly, and at the end of Day 1, India was 288/4 with Virat Kohli batting on 87. Rohit Sharma has so far represented India in 443 matches, of which 52 are Test matches. In those matches, he scored 3,620 runs at an average of 46.41. In his test career, he scored 10 centuries and 15 fifties in 87 innings, and his best score is 212 runs. He also crossed 2000 runs in test cricket as an opener during the match.
The other four Indian players who are in the top five list of run scorers in International cricket are Sachin Tendulkar (34,357 runs in 664 matches), Virat Kohli (25,484 runs in 500 matches), Rahul Dravid (24,064 runs in 504 matches), and Sourav Ganguly (18,433 runs in 421 matches). If Rohit Sharma continues to play in the upcoming years, he will surpass Saurav Ganguly.
