Ricky Ponting wants Surya Kumar Yadav in India’s team for WTC final.
Former Australian batting legend and current Delhi Capitals’ coach Ricky Ponting has recently expressed his views on India’s WTC squad and was surprised that Surya Kumar Yadav wasn’t included in India’s WTC squad for the final match against Australia, which is to be played at the Oval, England. Ricky Ponting backed the decision to include Ishan Kishan in the team, as the left-handed batter could be the best replacement for wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant, who is recovering from the injuries that he got when his car crashed last year.
Ishan Kishan replaced KL Rahul after the latter injured himself while fielding in an IPL match, and the recovery would take some time, due to which Kishan can be seen playing in the WTC final.
“With the injury issues India have got, they can go with few different ways especially in batting. Before Rahul’s injury I had him in the eleven, now that he is not there, they need to pick Ishan or K S Bharat,”
Ricky Ponting added
To the question asked of him about who has better chances to win Ponting said that Australia’s chances of winning the final are slightly better than India’s because the pitches in England are different than Indian pitches, but they are quite similar to Australian pitches, so Australia has higher chances of winning the final.
According to Ricky Ponting, the preparedness level of both teams is on the same page as the majority of the Indian players are busy playing in the IPL, Australian players like Pat Cummins are on a break, Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne are already playing cricket on England pitches to get an idea of the behavior of the pitches overseas, and Indian bowlers, especially pacers who are selected for the finals, are quite busy, so they would take some weeks to recover.
