In December 2006, Ashwin got the chance to play for Tamil Nadu in the year 2006 and captained the team the next year. He came to the public’s notice with his performance in the IPL 2010 when Chennai Super Kings won the tournament, and he got the chance to play for the Indian Cricket Team in 2010, where he made his T20I debut against Zimbabwe, taking 1/22 in his bowling spell.
