Both teams won six matches, and in their final match of the league stage, Rajasthan Royals came out victorious as they managed to defeat Punjab Kings by four wickets in the last over of the match. Punjab Kings batting first put a total of 187 runs on the scoreboard, and Rajasthan Royals needed to make 188 runs to stay alive in the race for the playoffs, and they did win the match with two balls remaining.

Atharva Taide came to the crease, but after hitting some impressive shots, he also got caught at midwicket in the 4th over of the powerplay. Shikhar Dhawan followed him in the next over while playing a sweep shot in Adam Zampa’s over.
The powerhouse Liam Livingstone this time failed to put on a show at Dharamshala and only managed to score 9 runs in 13 balls; his wicket was taken by Navdeep Saini while he was bowling his second over. Jitesh Sharma and Sama Curran were now at the crease, and the duo started accelerating the pace. Jitesh Sharma continued playing like he does; he scored 44 runs in just 28 balls but got out in the 14th over. PBKS were 114-5, and now Shahrukh Khan joined the crease with Sam Curran.
Sam Curran and Sharukh Khan started dealing in boundaries and sixes; they were demolishing the death over bowlers of Rajasthan Royals and hitting them for maximums multiple times, plus the sloppy fielding of Royals helped them keep going, and till the end of their innings, Punjab Kings managed to put 187 runs on the scoreboard, which was an achievable but difficult target for RR to achieve in 120 balls.

PBKS vs RR highlights IPL 2023: Rajasthan Royals, in their must-win game, came to the crease to chase the target of 188 runs with their opening pair of Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal, but the poor form of Jos Buttler continued, and he got dismissed on a duck by Kagiso Rabada in the second over. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Devdutt Padikkal started growing the partnership. Both players were playing well, and whenever needed, they hit some maximums to manage the required run rate.
The duo took the partnership to 85 runs in 10 overs, and Devdutt Padikkal completed his fifty in just 29 balls—his 9th IPL fifty—but in the same over he got dismissed. Yashasvi was now joined by the RR’s captain Sanju Samson, but in the 11th over he also got out. Shimron Hetmyer came to the crease and started dealing in sixes, and meanwhile Jaiswal completed his fifty, but in the same over he got caught.
Shimron Hetmyer, after hitting 46 quick runs, got out, and the match once again turned sided, but in the last over, when RR required 5 runs in 3 balls, Dhruv Jurel finished the match with a six and won it for his team with two balls remaining.

Punjab Kings are now out of the playoff race, and Rajasthan Royals are still in if everything goes in their favor, as other teams have some matches left. RR, with this win, now has 14 points, and they would get into the playoffs if other teams results comes out in their favor. If they qualify, then they better be prepared for the qualifier matches and perform well in those to reclaim the trophy.

Shikhar Dhawan after losing the match:
“We lost too many wickets in the powerplay and that put us on the backfoot, but Curran, Jitesh and Shahrukh got us back in the game, the bowling was good (in patches), but the fielding wasn’t great, the dropped catches cost us the game. I feel 200 should have been a good total on this pitch. We could have done better in all the areas I think. Sometimes the batting was clicking, and sometimes the bowling was clicking, we couldn’t put up those performances together”.
Sanju Samson after winning the match:
“I think at the end of the game, when Hety (Hetmyer) was going strong we thought we will finish by 18.5. We have a quality team and it is a little shocking to see where we stand on the table. I have been talking about Jasiwal almost every game. He has shown maturity. It feels he has played 100 T20Is. Almost 90 percent of the times we feel Boult will take a wicket in the first over. We were under pressure in the last few games”.
