PBKS vs RCB highlights: How was the pitch at Mohali?

PBKS vs RCB highlights

The Punjab Cricket Association’s Inderjit Singh Bindra Stadium at Mohali is a classic stadium that has hosted several main events in cricket earlier, including the 2011 World Cup semi-final between India and Pakistan held here. IS Bindra Stadium has so far hosted 58 IPL matches. The pitch of the Mohali suits the batters as the nature of the pitch is quite bouncy and the ball came on the bat quite well, plus bowlers are also on the advantageous side in the early overs.

In the last match between PBKS and RCB, we saw the pitch was conducive to bat as Virat Kohli and Faf Du Plessis both played superbly. The Punjab side also showed how good it was to bat on, and as expected, fast bowlers from the RCB side managed to pick quick wickets in the early overs. Later, there was little help for the bowlers, and PBKS’ Hitesh Sharma tried to fight with his aggressive batting skills and, for a shirt time, kept the hopes alive for PBKS but failed to seal the victory for his team.

PBKS vs RCB highlights: RCB’s top-order Batting

After losing the toss and getting to bat first, RCB opened with their stand-in captain Virat Kohli and Faf Du Plessis. While the former failed to impress with the bat in their team’s last match against CSK, Faf Du Plessis was in a different zone that night and played a great innings but unfortunately couldn’t win the match. Both started with their style of playing cricket and started punishing the bowlers from the very first over.

Virat Kohli started taking on the fast bowlers, whereas Faf du Plessis started hitting the spinners. The duo started accelerating the scoreboard, and Faf hit his 29th half-century in the IPL and 4th in this season despite a rib injury before the completion of the 10th over. On the other hand, Virat Kohli also made his 48th half-century in the IPL. The duo had a partnership of 133 runs for the first wicket, and Virat Kohli got out in the first ball of the 17th over. He scored 59 runs in just 46 balls, and later Glenn Maxwell got dismissed in the same over by Harpreet Brar. Maxwell didn’t open his account in the match.

Faf, on the other hand, was slowly nearing his century and was looking aggressive, but while trying to hit another maximum in the over of Nathan Ellis, he lifted the ball towards long off, and Sam Curran took his catch. Faf made 84 runs in just 56 balls and left the crease in the 18th over of their innings.

The batters after Faf somehow managed to reach a total of 174 runs in the 20th over.

PBKS vs RCB highlights: Punjab Kings’ quick fall of wickets:

While chasing the target of 175 runs to win the match, Punjab Kings opened their batting with Prabhsimran Singh and Atharva Aide, who opened his run account in the very first ball he faced and scored a boundary in the first ball of his team’s innings, but Mohmmad Siraj did a comeback and dismissed Atharva in the very next ball. Now. Matthew Short joined the crease, but he was dismissed by Wanindu Hasaranga. The big hitter, Liam Livingstone, failed to impress and gave his wicket to Mohammad Siraj after a successful DRS (Decision Review System) taken by Virat Kohli.

Prabhsimran Singh started playing in his aggressive fashion and hit some big sixes, he was joined by Jitesh Sharma who was looking in good touch, and Prabhsimran was dismissed by Wayne Parnell in the 12th over. Prabhsimran made 46 runs in 30 balls and kept the Punjab Kings’ hopes alive, later Jitesh Sharma played some good shots and tried winning the match for his team but in the 19th over of the second innings Harshal Patel dismissed him when PBKS required 25 runs in 11 balls.

Punjab Kings managed to score 150 runs and lost by 24 runs.

PBKS vs RCB highlights: Jitesh Sharma’s sloppy fielding and his comeback in batting

In the 16th over of the innings, Faf, while charging down the crease to hit another boundary, almost fell prey to a surprising bouncer by Sam Curran, but Jitesh Sharma dropped a juicy catch, and later Faf increased his scores and made 83 runs, though Jitesh Sharma managed to dismiss Virat Kohli by taking an impressive catch behind the wickets while Virat Kohli was trying to play a sweep shot.

Later, Jitesh Sharma came to the crease to bat during the second innings when his team, PBKS, was 76/5 in 10 overs. He held his nerve and started playing some good shots, and when the game was shifting towards RCB, he tried changing the tides and trying to close the gap. He was the batter who got dismissed at the last when Harshal Patel bowled a wide length slow ball.

PBKS vs RCB highlights: Mohammad Siraj’s Impeccable performance:

Mohammad Siraj is one of the best Indian bowlers, and in the last match against Punjab Kings, he showed his calibre by taking 4 wickets in his 4-over spell. He shattered the top batting order by taking quick wickets in the beginning and death overs, and he showed his exceptional fielding skills when he ran out Harpreet Singh Bhatia in the 6th over of the powerplay. His contribution played a huge role in his team’s victory against the Punjab Kings. He is now leading the Purple cap tally.

PBKS vs RCB highlights: Post-Match

Both teams gave their best to take the match, but RCB was better prepared and played well. After this victory, they moved up in the points table and are in 5th position as of now, whereas Punjab Kings are in 7th. We hope Punjab Kings players will recover fast from this defeat and comeback stronger in their next match.
