PBKS vs LSG Match Prediction: Punjab Kings vs Lucknow Super Giants, 38th Match of IPL 2023

PBKS vs LSG Match Prediction: Will Lucknow Super Giants be able to take revenge from Punjab Kings?

PBKS vs LSG Match Prediction: Punjab Kings will host Lucknow Super Giants at Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium, Mohali, on April 28, 2023.

Punjab Kings are having a decent season compared to their previous seasons in Indian Premier League. They won their last match against the Mumbai Indians side by 13 runs in which their middle order just smashed down Mumbai’s bowlers. It is going to be an exciting match against the Lucknow Super Giants, who also have the same season, and both teams have 8 points.

Punjab Kings are confident for their next match; in the previous match, they performed really well against the 5-time IPL champion Mumbai Indians. Batting first, Punjab Kings put in a total of 214, and they were able to do because of Sam Curran, Harpreet Singh, and Jitesh Sharma’s explosive batting.

While defending, Punjab bowlers did really well, especially Arshdeep Singh, who took four wickets. His last two overs were exceptional when he broke two stumps that would hurt the IPL finance team because one stump cost around 10 lakhs, and a set of stumps cost 30 lakhs. Arshdeep Singh put 20 Lakhs fine on IPL by breaking two stumps.

Lucknow Super Giants did not have a great outing in their previous match as they lost to Gujarat Titans by 7 runs from the team’s point of view. It was a disastrous match, not because they had not performed well but because they let the match slip from their hand. They almost dominated the whole match, and in the end, they needed just 30 runs in 33 balls and had 8 wickets in hand.

The middle order of Lucknow Super Giants just failed to score a single boundary in the last phase of the match, which cost them to lose the match. KL Rahul failed to get his team over the line, and in the death overs, he did not hit a single boundary which is an amazing thing because he was well set on 68. They lost 4 wickets in the last over. KL Rahul was unhappy with himself and with the performance they gave.

I don’t know how it happened, but it has happened. I can’t put a finger on where it went wrong, but we lost 2 points today, this is cricket. I thought we were brilliant with the ball, 135 was 10 runs under par, the bowling was exceptional, we started well with the bat, but these things happen, we’ll have to take it on the chin.

PBKS vs LSG: Head-to-Head Record

Punjab Kings and Lucknow Super Giants played only two matches against each other. It is going to be a reverse fixture for both the teams as they played before in the tournament this season. In the last head-to-head, Punjab Kings won the match by 2 wickets, and it was Shahrukh Khan played an amazing 23-run inning in just 10 balls, leading his team to win the match against Lucknow Super Giants.

Lucknow Super Giants will be hoping to take a win back from Punjab Kings to be back in the winnings table once again.

Pitch Report of Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium, Mohali

Match Played12
Batting first won8
Batting second won4
Average First Innings Score166
Spinner Took187 Wickets
Pacer Took424 Wickets

The last match played on this ground had a batting-friendly track, and it was clear that the player who played with their full potential found it easy to hit the ball out of the park, but the players who struggled because of their own form and ability to play on that particular day.

The pitch was more of the neutral side, and both units had something from the pitch to offer. Mohali pitch offers something for everyone as the average 1st innings score here is normal, and pacers enjoyed more bowling on this surface rather than spinners.

Team Preview of Punjab Super Kings

Punjab Kings are of high confidence after defeating Mumbai Indians at their home ground when they were on a winning run. The Punjab team is not 6th at the table with 8 points, and till now, they are looking decent team.

The most serious issue Punjab Kings are having is the absence of Shikhar Dhawan, and because of that, the opening pair is not clicking at all. They gave two Matthew Short chances to open with Prabhsimran Singh, but still, they were not able to work well, and Matthew Short fell short on just 11 runs. Other than him, most of the batters scored runs.

Sam Curran just proved his 18.5 Crore price tag performance in the last match when he scored 55 runs in just 29 balls, smashing 4 sixes and 5 fours. Still, he is not giving a performance with both Bat and bowl in the same match.

Jitesh Sharma seems to be improving match by match, and in his previous match, he smashed 25 runs in just 7 balls. He hit 4 sixes which help the Punjab Kings team post a total of 214 runs in 20 overs. Harpreet Singh is one of the most technical players in the Punjab Kings side, and he should be given a chance at the opening slot or 1st down slot.

Arshdeep Singh is back with his best form and looking sharp, which he showed by his performance against the Mumbai Indians side in which he took four wickets and bowled beautifully in the tough overs. The injury he had last year caused him a lot of trouble with his bowling mark on his return match to the Indian Team side, and he bowled the most number of no balls in a single match.

“Feels good whenever I take wickets. Right now I feel even happier as the team won. I have shortened my run-up as it helped me with the no-ball problem and I am enjoying my cricket at the moment. Danny (Morrison) you should come and stand next to me (when bowling the final over), the heartbeat is not even close to 120,”

Arshdeep Singh said in the post match.

Liam Livingstone failed in both matches and got out under 10 in both matches, which raised some eyebrows because he was picked as one of the main power-hitting batsmen in the team but failed in both IPL seasons. However, he showed his power-hitting class in international matches and in the other T20 league.

The spin department of Punjab Kings is not performing well, and if they are able to fix the spin department issue and opening batter issue, then they will be a complete team. Till then, in every match, few players need to perform their best to hide their weaknesses.

The good news for the Punjab Kings fans and team is that Shikar Dhawan is almost fully fit, and there is a very high chance that he will go to be included in the match against Lucknow Super Giants. He is still the highest scorer on the team even though he has not played the last three matches which clearly shows that he is someone who performs in every match.

Team Preview of Lucknow Super Giants

Lucknow Super Giants are fourth in the table with 8 points in hand, but their season could be better because they give away 4 points from their two matches in which they could have won easily but still now they are fourth, still fighting for the playoffs and have a good opportunity to be in the playoff if their middle order becomes more consistent.

In their previous head-to-head match against the Punjab Kings was in their control, but in the end, they gave away the crucial two points and lost the match by 2 wickets. They needed to defend 20 runs in 12 balls, and Punjab was 7 wickets down, but their bowlers were still unable to defend it as Shahrukh Khan smashed them and won the match 3 balls before.

The opening pair KL Rahul and Kyle Mayers are giving Lucknow team a good start, but the middle-order batsmen cannot keep the moment in every match, which results in a loss. Deepak Hooda once again failed to score runs, and he should be replaced by someone else, most probably Rishi Dhawan. Deepak Hooda scored only 41 in 7 matches which is a very low number for the batsmen who regularly get a chance at the 1st down.

The bowling unit of Lucknow Super Giants is performing well. Though they are not picking many wickets, they are still being economical with bowling. If Mark Wood gets fit, they will have a stronger bowling unit as he is their highest wicket-taker even though he played only 4 matches and have 11 wickets, including his star performance in the opening match of Lucknow Super Giants in which he took five wickets.

Stonis is doing well with the ball, and even in the previous match, he took 2 important wickets. His batting improved against the spinners, and against Punjab Kings, he might feel more confident because they don’t have any star spin bowlers.

KL Rahul needs to improve his strike rate. Because of his low strike rate, the middle-order batsmen do not get time to settle down as they have few balls to face making them get out playing an irrational shot. The Afghani pacer Naveen-ul-Haq performed well for the side from time to time whenever he got the chance, and in the last match, he bowled beautifully, giving away only 19 runs and taking 1 wicket in his four-over spell.
