In the match against PBKS on their home ground, IS Bindra Stadium, Mohali, Punjab, LSG entered the ground to entertain the cricket fans of Punjab, and they did it in their own style. PBKS was trying their best to perform well in front of their home crowd after their successful win against the Mumbai Indians, but failed to cross the gigantic total of 256 runs and lost the match by 56 runs.

After losing the toss, LSG had to bat first at Mohali, and Lucknow Super Giants started with their regular duo this IPL (Kyle Myers and KL Rahul) starting the innings, and on the very first of the debutant Gurnoor Brar, KL Rahul was dropped by Atharva Taide at backward point. Though KL Rahul didn’t do that much damage and got dismissed by making 12 runs for his team, meanwhile the run storm of Kyle Myers had already begun. In the second over of the innings, Kyle Myers started his game and hit Arshdeep Singh for four boundaries, and after that, he continued to hit bowlers and managed to score his half-century in just 20 balls before getting out in the 2nd over of Kagiso Rabada’s spell.

Marcus Stoinis, Ayush Badoni, and Nicholas Pooran’s Run Show:

After Kyle Myers’ devastating knock, Marcus Stoinis and Ayush Badoni joined the party and started hitting balls out of the park. While Marcus Stoinis was leading the way, Ayush Badoni didn’t reach his half-century as he fell short of 7 runs and scored 43 runs in just 24 balls.

Marcus Stoinis was still in his zone and continued the good work for his team, assisted by Nicholas Pooran the duo lightened the Mohali Stadium with sixes and boundaries and destroyed the economy of the bowlers, Marcus Stoinis Run fest ended in Sam Curran’s over, Stoinis scored 72 runs of just 40 balls and in the final over of the LSG innings, Nicholas Pooran got dismissed after scoring 45 runs in just 19 balls. 

By scoring 12 runs in the 20th over of their innings, LSG put up the second-highest score in the history of the IPL. LSG put 256 runs on the scoreboard, and it was on their bowlers to defend this humungous total.

As Shikhar Dhawan was back in the team, the PBKS entered the crease to chase 256 runs. Shikhar Dhawan and Impact player Prabhsimran Singh started the PBKS innings and in the very first over the left hand batter Shikhar Dhawan departs in the 4th ball of the over, definitely a start that PBKS didn’t want, later Prabhsimran Singh and Atharva Taide started scoring runs but Prabhsimran Singh got out by just making 13 runs, Atharva Taide scored his fifty and kept his team’s hope alive but after his wicket the batters afterwards such as Liam Livingstone, Jitesh Sharma tried scoring runs but failed to win the match.

Marcus Stoinis, after his team’s loss against the Gujarat Titans a week earlier, even when they required only 30 runs with 5 overs remaining, spent days analysing his game plan, and Deepak Hooda assisted him in his game plan revival. Stoinis not only managed to score big runs for his team, he also showed his bowling skills and took Shikhar Dhawan’s wicket in the very first over of his bowling spell. Post-match, Marcus Stoinis shared some of his week-long training drills and how he managed to come out of the defeat.

“My reset button was a little bit different. I set off to Delhi with my girlfriend and also my boy Deepak Hooda. We took off there and we got to bit of the grassroots. We went and did some training in Delhi with some of the coaches and a few net bowlers and that sort of stuff.

Deepak showed me around his place and how he structures his training and looks after the people that help him get to the level that he is. It was really nice. It was a nice reset. Nice to get back to the grassroots and why we are playing and see some of India as well.”

PBKS vs LSG highlights 2023: How was the pitch at Mohali?

Punjab Cricket Association’s IS Bindra Stadium at Mohali, Punjab, favoured the batters a lot, though the pitch was quite neutral. LSG batters utilised the opportunity well, whereas Punjab Kings also scored 200+ runs while chasing the target of 257 runs but failed to do so.

Punjab Kings’ fielders performed averagely as they dropped some catches; in fact, the very first ball of their bowling innings started with a dropped catch. If they had managed to take the wicket in the very first ball, who knows if the result could have been different? But time can’t be reversed, and Punjab Kings bowling was not up to the mark; it was just opposite to what their bowlers did at Wankhede Stadium against Mumbai Indians.
