How can the Mumbai Indians qualify for the playoffs?
Mumbai Indians, one of the most successful teams in the IPL, are now on the verge of a make-or-break situation as the five-time IPL trophy winners lost their last match against Lucknow Super Giants in a thrilling last over. They lost the match by 5 runs as Mohsin Khan delivered a brilliant last over to save 11 runs and propelled his team Lucknow Super Giants to a victory, making his team jump to the third spot in the points table, whereas Mumbai Indians are just behind Lucknow Super Giants in the fourth spot of the points table.
Mumbai Indians have so far won 7 out of the 13 matches they played with a total of 14 points, but if they win their last league stage match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, then there are chances of them qualifying for the playoffs. But there is some twist to that as well: if the Royal Challengers Bangalore manage to win their last two matches with a positive run rate and Chennai Super Kings and Lucknow Super Giants both win their last matches, then Mumbai Indians would get out of the playoffs.
To secure their spot in the playoffs, Mumbai needs to win their last match, which would take them to 16 points, plus if RCB lose in any of their two matches, their spot in the top four is almost sure unless some big twist happens in the matches of the rest of the team. Only time will tell whether MI will be playing in the playoffs or not. So far, MI’s top order is playing well, as Ishan Kishan has played some good innings, plus Mr. 360 Surya Kumar Yadav is in sublime form, but Rohit Sharma’s bat is quiet this year, and that’s what makes the team heavily dependent on SKY.
