Australian batters are on top 1-2-3 in the ICC Test batting rankings: Marnus Labuschagne is joined by Steve Smith and Travis Head in the 2nd and 3rd spots.

After winning the final of the WTC (2021–23), Australian batters are now holding the top three spots in the ICC Men’s Test Batting Rankings. Marnus Labuschagne, Steve Smith, and Travis Head are now on ranks 1, 2, and 3 of the men’s test batting rankings. Marnus Labuschagne is at the top of the rankings with 903 points, followed by Steve Smith with 885 points, and in third is Travis Head with a close 884 points. Labuschagne before the WTC final was in the top spot, but it was Smith and Travis Head who jumped up in their rankings after their century innings in the WTC final.

Travis Head was the player of the match in the WTC final because of the innings he played in the finals. In the first innings, he scored 163 runs and built a partnership of 285 runs, where Steve Smith also contributed by scoring his 31st century in Test cricket. Because of the duo’s fourth wicket partnership, Australia put 469 runs on the board, which eventually put pressure on the Indian side, and Australian bowlers did the remaining work to maintain the lead, especially Scott Boland, the right-arm pacer of Australia. His exceptional performance in the final improved his rankings in test cricket, and now he is in the 36th position in the ICC men’s test bowling rankings.

This type of moment where the top three spots of the ICC test batting rankings were occupied by the players of one team happened in 1984 as well, when the batters of the West Indies, Gordon Greenidge (810 rating points), Clive Lloyd (787), and Larry Gomes (773), were at the top of the list. Now, the Australian team is gearing up for the upcoming Ashes test series, which is going to start on June 16, 2023, in England.
