LSG vs PBKS Match Prediction: Lucknow Super Giants vs Punjab Kings, 21st Match of IPL 2023
LSG vs PBKS Match Prediction: Lucknow Super Giants will host Punjab Kings at their home ground at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow, on April 15, 2023.
Lucknow Super Giants must be in high confidence after snatching the win from Royal Challengers Bangalore at their own home ground in front of a huge number of fans. The match was under Royal Challengers Bangalore’s control until Marcus Stonis and Nicholas Pooran started smashing big sixes against their bowlers and winning by 1 wicket in a nail-biting encounter. They are in the 2nd spot of the points table, played 4 matches, won 3, and lost 1 till now.
The whole world also saw the aggression and passion of Lucknow Super Giants coach Guatum Gambhir who was later seen with Virat Kohli after the match. It was a pleasure to watch the two Delhi boys showing their passion, but also, Avesh Khan got fined because of his aggression, and his half-match fees were cut. He also got a warning from BCCI that if the same thing happens, he can get a 5-match ban.
Punjab Kings lost their last match against the defending champions, Gujarat Titans, by 6 wickets, but it was not that easy to win for the Gujarat side as Punjab Kings fought hard till the end. Punjab’s opening failed to contribute any runs in their last match as their ever-reliable Shikhar Dhawan got out on 8 runs, and the explosive batter Prabhsimran got out on the 2nd ball of the match. Though this time, their middle order scored some runs and made them reach a decent total of 153 in 20 overs thanks to Shahrukh Khan hitting, who scored 22 runs in just 9 balls.
The match went into the last over as Sam Curran tried his best to defend 7 runs of 6 balls but couldn’t as Rahul Tewatia scooped over the leg side to make his team Gujarat Titans, win the match. The next match against the Lucknow Super Giants at their home is going to be tough for them, but if they win this match, they will go to the top 4 spots.
LSG vs PBKS: Head-to-Head Record
Lucknow Super Giants played against Punjab Kings just once, in which Lucknow Super Giants won by 20 runs, and Krunal Pandya was the player of the match. He scored 7 runs in that match, took 2 wickets in his four-over spell by giving just 11 runs, and also bowled one maiden over, which is a fantastic thing in T20 matches.

The pitch of Ekana Stadium favors spinners more than pace bowlers, which was seen in the last match on this ground between Lucknow Super Giants and SunRisers Hyderabad on April 7th, 2023. Spinners took 8 wickets in that match, and pacers took four wickets which shows that the pitch of Ekana stadium mostly favors spinners more.
It will be interesting to see if the match will be played on the same surface as it was played in the previous match or on the other pitch which was used in the match between Lucknow Super Giants and Delhi Capitals, which was a high-scoring match in which pacers got more wickets then spinners.
LSG vs PBKS: Team Preview of Lucknow Super Giants
Lucknow Super Giants won their last match by just 1 wicket against the Royal Challenger Bangalore, who posted a huge total of 212 runs, but it was all Nicholas Pooran and Marcus Stonis’s innings that got them over the line.
Lucknow Super Giants are one of the teams who are struggling with their bowling lineup, as only Ravi Bishnoi and Mark Wood are constantly performing well, but their domestic bowlers are not as impressive as it was in their previous season and the big reason for that Moshin Khan who is out of the IPL this season.
There might be changes in the opening as Kyle Mayers failed to score runs in his last two matches, and Quinton de Kock is on the bench waiting for his opportunity in the match against Punjab Kings. He might get the chance as the pitch is slow, and de Kock knows Indian pitches very well, so he might directly come in for Kyle Mayers.
Daniel Sams might come in Playing Xi for Romario Shepherd because Lucknow Super Giants needs a death bowler and also someone who can bat a bit down the order. Daniel Sams is the superstar in Big Bash League but failed to show the same performance in the Indian Premier League.
Kl Rahul has been struggling a lot and was not looking confident at all on his shots in the four matches of IPL. He scored just 81 runs with a strike rate of 100 which is worst if you are playing in IPL. The good news for Lucknow Super Giants is Nicholas Pooran is scoring well for them and giving them a great finishing touch, but he is not someone whom you can rely on for every match.

LSG vs PBKS: Team Preview of Punjab Kings
The team is once again looking in trouble, just like they did in the previous season, but still, the hopes are high to be qualified for the playoffs. They are having a few issues with their batting lineup as right now they don’t have any reliable opener except Shikhar Dhawan, and then they have three foreign players who bat at the same position, which creates an issue for them whom to pick.
Liam Livingstone can come into the Playing XI as an ALL-Rounder in place of Bhanuka Rajapaksa, who is in decent form, but Liam will give them one more bowling option on the slow surface, and he has the ability to bowl from both hands as an off-spinner and leg break which is a very rare ability in world cricket.
Arshdeep Singh is not looking in great rhythm though he is taking wickets. The sharpness in his bowling is not as good as it was before he got injured. Including Kagiso Rabada gave them a huge boost in the bowling unit, and Matthew Short’s all-around skill is great for them. In the last match, he showed some amazing shots and scored 36 runs in 24 balls.
The most expensive player of IPL, Sam Curran is performing decently, but still, the X-factor in his bowling is missing, which he showed in the T20 World Cup, 2022, which helped the England Cricket Team to win the title.
