KKR vs CSK Match Prediction: Kolkata Knight Riders vs Chennai Super Kings, 33rd Match of IPL 2023
KKR vs CSK Match Prediction: Kolkata Knight Riders will host Chennai Super Kings at Eden Gardens Stadium, Kolkata, on April 23, 2023.
Kolkata Knight Riders must be having nightmares now after losing three consecutive matches in a row after they lost their previous match against Delhi Capitals by 4 wickets who were in the worst form and had not won any matches in IPL 2023, but they got their first win against the Knights.
The team Captaincy is one of the biggest issues, as Nitish Rana is not able to sustain his players and calm them down during the match. Only Jason Roy, Mandeep Singh, and Andre Russel were able to pass the 10 runs mark. The pitch was in favor of their own team’s playing style, but still, the team was not able to put up a good total, resulting in their losing the match. The bowlers of Kolkata Knight Rider did really well to fight till the end but failed to make it a historic win.
Chennai Super Kings are back on a winning roll as they won their last match against SunRisers Hyderabad quite comfortable with 7 wickets in hand and 8 balls spare to be delivered. Ravindra Jadeja and Devon Conway pull the match in Chennai’s favor and now Chennai Super Kings are in the 3rd spot in the points table. Jadeja also got the player of the match.
The Chennai Super Kings looking more settled now and MS Dhoni enjoying his last IPL season which he also said in the Post-Match Conference after the match.
“Whatever said and done, it’s the last phase of my career, however long I play. It’s very important to enjoy it,” Dhoni said.
“IPL… after two years, the fans have had the opportunity to come here and watch. It’s a full house and the new stands are good. So, it feels good to be here. We haven’t played at Chennai a lot, as I said at the start of the season. The crowd has given us a lot of love and affection. They always stay back to hear me out (presentation speech). Not getting enough chances to bat, but no complaints. The guys are doing a fantastic job,” he added.
KKR vs CSK: Head-to-Head Record
Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings played 27 matches, in which Chennai Super Kings won 17 matches and Kolkata Knight Riders won 9 matches. Chennai side is the heavy favorite in the match because they are on a winning run and also a better team than Kolkata Knight Riders.

The Eden Gardens pitch in Kolkata has a neutral surface and has favored batsmen and Spinners more recently. In the 2019 IPL season, Kolkata Knight Riders’ score versus Mumbai Indians was the highest on this particular pitch. The surface will be ideal for batsmen, and there will be dew in the batting second, making chasing easier and defending harder for bowlers who struggle to grasp the ball. The scoring on this ground is also good, as seen in the last match when Kolkata Knight Riders posted 204 runs in 20 overs.
The last match on the ground was between Kolkata Knight Riders vs SunRisers Hyderabad, which was a high-scoring match because the wicket was flat as a road that did not have any assistance for bowlers. Both teams together scored 433 runs in 240 balls, almost 2 runs a ball.
Harry Brook Smashed a century on this pitch in just 55 balls which clearly shows how flat the wicket is because he did not score any runs in his other 5 matches. It is going to be hard for bowlers to take wickets and stop batters from scoring runs.
Team Preview of Kolkata Knight Riders
Kolkata Knight Riders are in 7th place with 4 points but one positive they have that their positive Net Run Rate. The team is in deep trouble now because they are not playing as one unit, and the captain, Nitish Rana, is nowhere in control over his team.
Kolkata Knight Riders appointed Chandrakant Pandit as the team’s coach because he is well-known for making the small and weak teams win titles, just like he did with Vidarbha and Madhya Pradesh, but Kolkata might make a mistake because Kolkata Knight Riders are not the team with domestic players or weak players.
The Kolkata Knight Riders is a team with many star players though Rinku Singh also became the star after hitting 5 sixes in 5 balls when the team needed 28 runs in 5 balls. Many gave credit to Chandrakant Pandit because he worked with every domestic player, but after that, the team went on three straight losses.
The Team management needs to rethink the captaincy choices because Nitish Rana is not looking right as a captain, which creates havoc in the team and does not look like one unit. Though he took 2 wickets in the last match, which was a surprise, it was against the worst batting lineup of the IPL.
Though Nitish Rana accepted the defeat and said that it was on me that I should have taken responsibility, he also praised the bowlers.
“I think we were 15-20 runs on this difficult pitch. I take the responsibility for this, I should have stood there,”
“Credit to the bowlers though, I think the upcoming games will be good for us. We were just trying to delay, but they played really well in the powerplay. That’s where they won the game. We need to play well as a team. We need to bowl like the way we did today, if we manage to sort these things out, we can fight better,” Rana added.
Nitish Rana said at the post-match interview
They have so many issues in all departments. Except for Venkatesh Iyer, another batter is not in form or scoring runs, and in the last match, they made few changes in the lineup as they tried to give a chance to Liton Das as the Wicket Keeper, but he missed two huge chances of stumping which cost them to lose the match, and he also failed to score a run.
Jason Roy’s debut was good as he was the top scorer from the Kolkata Knight Riders side and looked in great touch on the same track in which other batter fell short. There are going to be many changes in their next match again that will not have a great impact because the team is unsettled.
Team Preview of Chennai Super Kings
Chennai Super Kings has been the only team who makes the fewest changes in their playing xi because MS Dhoni always gives his players support and courage to do well. Every player who plays under MS Dhoni accepts that he is the best leader in the world.
MS Dhoni always uses his player to his highest potential, which is what every cricketer loves about him because he plays the match with a lot of nerves and psychological factors. The coaches and staff of Chennai Super Kings are also one of the most reliable in IPL history.
Stephen Fleming has been the coach of the Chennai Super Kings for the last 14 seasons of IPL, and their staff of his never changed. He played for Chennai Super Kings in the 1st edition of IPL, and from the next season, he became the coach of the team. He has a win Percentage of 59.26 which is best if you compare it to any other coach who stayed in the same team for more than 3-5 years.
Devon Conway looking better than ever scoring in every match now he scored three consecutive half-centuries in his last three matches and is now back in the orange cap race as he scored 258 runs in 6 matches with an average of 51.60 runs.
Ravindra Jadeja seems to be back in form and now in his last 4 matches, he took 8 wickets though he is not getting much chance with the batting and is also not able to score much after the injury he has not been on his best batting.
