“The tweet I think is a bit irresponsible, shows some inexperience”- Justin Langer and Ricky Ponting on Shubman Gill

Australian legends Ricky Ponting and Justin Langer slam Shubman Gill for his controversial tweet, in which, without even saying a word, he somehow tried questioning the decision of the third umpire who gave him out on Day 4 of the WTC final. Shubman Gill was trying to play save, but the unexpected bounce shocked him and he took his bat’s edge and went to the third slip, where Cameron Green took an unbelievable catch, which was a fair one from the third umpire’s point of view, and that’s where the controversy started, as in some frames it was seen that the ball was touching the ground when Cameron Green took full control of it, but the third umpire gave Shubman Gill out and he had to walk off the field.

Shubman Gill while posting one of the pics over his twitter account added emoticons of magnifying glasses and face palm which reflected his disappointment towards the third umpire decision. Justin Langer and Ricky Ponting didn’t like the youngster’s gesture of show his disappointment towards third Umpire decision and said certain statements. Justin Langer said.

One of the challenges now of a modern-day cricketer is there’s so much social media,”. The Gill tweet I think is a bit irresponsible, shows some inexperience. This is the world we live in with social media.”

Justin Langer said on Channel 7.

Ricky Ponting even went to the point of imposing a fine or ban on Shubman Gill so that the youngster could learn a lesson that the way he showed his disappointment was not appropriate for a cricket player. The BCCI also indirectly slammed Shubman Gill’s behavior and warned him for his actions.

“That is a direct crack at the umpire for the decision that they made. You can’t do that.

“The whole world was going to do that for him … he didn’t need to say a word.”
