What Ben Stokes said on his comeback in England team for World Cup 2023 after retirement?

England’s Test skipper Ben Stokes recently clarified his stance on his comeback in England’s team for the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 after the rumors of his potential return in the team gathered a lot of attention. The left-handed batter cleared the rumors by stating that he will remain retired from ODI cricket; in fact, he will focus on his recovery and spend time with his family after the Ashes. England’s chance to retain the Ashes has now been washed out after the heavy downpour at Manchester during the fourth test of the Ashes 2023. England is down 2-1 in the series, and the fourth test would decide whether Australia would claim the Ashes again or England would inflict a tie by winning the final test match at The Oval.

Ben Stokes played a significant role in England’s victory in the World Cup 2019, and since then there have been several matches where he came as the savior of his team and pulled the victory from the jaws of defeat. In the 2022 T20 World Cup final, he played the match-winning innings for his team, and England lifted the title for the second time. Ben Stokes, before the ICC T20 World Cup 2022, announced his retirement from the ODI format, which was shocking for everyone in his team. He hurt his knees during England’s tour of New Zealand. The injury made him rest for almost an entire IPL season, as he played just two matches for the Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2023.

Stokes, as quoted by the ICC, said some words while asked on the topic of his comeback in ODIs:

I’m retired,”

I’m going on holiday after this game and that’s as far as I’m thinking.

Ben Stokes said

He is also planning to get the surgery if he doesn’t feel good enough to play any more games.
