“Nobody contacted me and told me the reasons why I was dropped” Hanuma Vihari disappointed after being left out of the team.
Indian team batter Hanuma Vihari, who appeared in international matches for the Indian side primarily in Test matches, is disappointed with the selectors decision to drop him from the team. Vihari last played a test match for the Indian side in July 2022, when India was taking on England in a one-off test match. Apart from Hanuma Vihari, star test player of India Cheteshwar Pujara was not included in the squad as team management decided to give more opportunity to youngsters, though the return of Ajinkya Rahane in the team is an exception as the right-handed batter is in decent form since IPL 2023 and his last performance in the WTC not only earned him a spot in the team again but he is now the vice captain of India.
Hanuma Vihari showed his disappointment by sharing his feelings with The Indian Express.
Definitely, there was disappointment.
“I didn’t find a reason why I was dropped and it was the only thing that was bothering me. Nobody really contacted me and told me the reasons why I was dropped. It took some time and I have gone through ups and downs and I’m not worried about it now. I’ve put aside my personal side of things and I don’t take too much stress about whether I’m in the Indian team or not. There are other matches to win and it is about winning the trophies”
Hanuma Vihari has played 16 test matches while representing the Indian side and scored 839 runs; his highest score in test matches is 111. He is now leading the South Zone in the Duleep Trophy, and his team is clashing with the West Zone in the final of the trophy. He disbelieves in the notion that a test match could only be played at a slow pace and thinks that the batter can change his style of play according to the situation and conditions.
Test cricket can be played in different ways and you can’t just stick to one way of playing. If you take the last match (Duleep Trophy semifinal) for instance, it was an opportunity to show different skill sets that a batsman requires to play all three formats,”
