GT vs CSK IPL 2023 Final highlights: MS Dhoni, after winning the toss, elected to field first, and Gujarat Titans came to bat with their openers Shubman Gill and Wriddhiman Saha. Both players had been in good form all season, especially Shubman Gill. CSK’s bowlers wanted to dismiss him as early as possible to reduce the runs on the scoreboard. The moment came in the second over of the match when Shubman Gill tried hitting the ball to the leg side and Deepak Chahar dropped him at backward square leg.
Shubman Gill took advantage of that opportunity and started dealing boundaries and sixes. On the other end, Wriddhiman Saha hit some great shots in the over of Deepak Chahar; both batters put more than 60 runs in the powerplay, but in the seventh over, Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni showed their partnership to the crowd when Jadeja bowled a ball slightly off and MS Dhoni’s lightning fast hands stumped Shubman Gill. CSK has drawn the first blood.
B. Sai Sudharsan made his way to the crease, and both players accelerated the run speed. Saha got out after scoring his fifty; he scored 54 runs in 39 balls. When Saha got out, GT were 131-2 in 14 overs. Hardik Pandya entered the arena, and the duo showered boundaries and sixes all over the ground. Sai Sudharsan was in good touch, and playing fearlessly, he scored 96 runs in 47 balls before getting out in the last over of the innings.
Gujarat Titans set a target of 215 runs for the four-time champion CSK.

GT vs CSK IPL 2023 Final highlights: Chennai Super Kings opened their innings with their usual openers, Devon Conway and Ruturaj Gaikwad, to do the impossible task of chasing 215 runs in 120 balls, which had never happened in the IPL before, but in the very first over, rain came back again, and the players once again had to go to the dressing rooms to wait for it to stop.
The match restarted, and the target was reduced to 171 runs in 15 overs. Devon Conway and Ruturaj Gaikwad started charging on every ball; the duo managed to score 74 runs in 6.2 overs, but Gaikwad, in the same over, got caught at short third man by Rashid Khan. In the same over, Devon Conway got caught at Long-Off, and CSK lost their openers.
Shivam Dube (Impact Substitute) and Ajinkya Rahane now took the responsibility to score further runs, though Shivam Dube took his time. Rahane read the pitch really well and started dealing in sixes and boundaries, but his innings couldn’t last longer as he got out in the 11th over. CSK were 117-3. Ambati Rayudu and Shivam Dube started dealing sixes, and before getting out, Rayudu scored 25 runs in 14 balls. MS Dhoni came, but got out on a duck. The CSK hopes were dampened after MS Dhoni’s wicket, but Ravindra Jadeja came out as the savior.
In the last over, when CSK needed 13 runs to win the IPL trophy, Mohit Sharma was handed the ball by Hardik Pandya to save it, though he bowled the first four balls brilliantly. In the last two balls, when CSK needed 10 runs, Jadeja pulled the victory out of the fire by scoring the required runs.
GT vs CSK IPL 2023 Final highlights: Post-Match Statements
Hardik Pandya (Losing Captain):
“I think we tick a lot of boxes as a team. We play with a lot of heart, really proud of the way we kept fighting. We have a motto – we win together, we lose together. I’m not going to make excuses, CSK played the better cricket. We batted really well, special mention to Sai, not easy to play that well at this level. We have been backing the boys and trying to make sure we get the best out of them. But their success is their success. The way they have put their hand up and delivered – Mohit, Rashid, Shami everyone. I’m very happy for him, destiny had this written. If I had to lose, I’d rather lose to him. Good things happen to good people, and he’s been one of the best people I know. God has been kind, God has been kind to me as well but today was his night.”
Ambati Rayudu(Retiring Player)
“It’s a fairytale finish. I couldn’t have asked for more. I’m fortunate to have played in really great sides. I can smile for the rest of my life. All the hard work I’ve done in the last 30 years, I’m happy I got to finish on this note. I would really like to thank my family, my father. Without them this wouldn’t have been possible.”
MS Dhoni (Winning Captain):
There were lapses today, the bowling department didn’t work, but it was the batting department that took the pressure off them today. I do get frustrated, it is human but I try to step into their shoes, every individual deals with pressure differently. Ajinkya and a few others are experienced, so you don’t worry. If anyone is confused, then can always ask. The special thing about Rayudu is he will always give his 100% when he is on his field. But with him in the team, I will never win the fairplay award. I’ve been playing with him for a long time, since the India A tours. He’s a player who can play spin and pace equally well. It is something really special.”
