Deepak Chahar was born on August 7, 1992, in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, to Lokendra Singh Chahar (his father) and Pushpa Chahar (his mother). His father is a retired Indian Air Force personnel, and his mother is a homemaker. He has one elder sister, Malti Chahar. Deepak Chahar started playing cricket at the tender age of 10, when his father admitted him to the Zila Cricket Academy in Jaipur. His father was really supportive and devoted his full time to building Deepak’s cricket career.
His father took him every morning to his cricket academy, which was in his town, for practice, where Deepak Chahar practiced for 6 hours daily till the start of his domestic career.

Deepak Chahar’s domestic career started in the year 2010-11, when he made his debut in first-class cricket in the Ranji Trophy. He displayed some outstanding bowling performances and scalped 8 wickets with his swing bowling attack, due to which the opposite team (Hyderabad) was bowled out for 21 runs, which is the lowest total in the Ranji Trophy. Deepak Chahar was playing in Rajasthan back then.
His exceptional performance continued in his debut year, which helped his team win their maiden Ranji Trophy title. With his bowling skills, he soon caught the eye of the selectors and got the contract from the Rising Pune Super Giants (an IPL cricket franchise now defunct) in 2016.
IPL Career:
Deepak Chahar’s IPL career started in 2016 when he was acquired by the Rising Pune Super Giants (now defunct), but that year he played only two matches and took no wickets. In 2018, the Chennai Super Kings bought him for INR 80 lakhs, and that year he played 12 matches and scalped 10 wickets. The following year, he was in some fine touch and took 22 wickets in 17 matches played. His team couldn’t lift the title that year, but he made a powerful space for himself in the team as a front-line bowler.
Since then, he has been playing for the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL, and in the IPL 2023 auction, he was retained by CSK for a whopping INR 14 crore.
International Cricket Career:
Deepak Chahar got the opportunity to don the blue jersey in May 2018 when India was touring England for the matches, and on July 8, he opened his wicket account in the T20I by taking 1 wicket in the match and played his debut ODI match the same year against Afghanistan in the Asia Cup 2018. Later, he was selected for the Indian team against the West Indies and got his maiden player of the match award in the final T20 match of the series.
In the final match of a T20 series against Bangladesh, he became only the second Indian bowler and the first Indian male bowler to take a hattrick in an international T20 match. The first Indian bowler to achieve this feat was Ekta Bisht, who did this task back in 2012 against Sri Lanka. Deepak Chahar took 6 wickets against Bangladesh for 7 runs from 3.2 overs, which is still the second-best bowling figure in the ICC T20I match.
