Bismah Maroof, former Pakistan Women’s Cricket Team captain, has opted out of the Asian Games 2023 due to the “No-Children Rule.” The Pakistan Cricket Board announced its women’s Cricket team for the continental event, and current Pakistan captain Nida Dar will be leading the team. Bismah Maroof wouldn’t be a part of the Pakistani side as she is not allowed to carry her infant daughter with her at the venue Hangzhou, China. The 15-player squad includes two uncapped players: right-handed batter Shawal Zulfiqar and left-arm spinner Anoosha Nasir, who are the new faces in the team.
According to the ICC T20I rankings and certain rules of the tournament, the Pakistan (W) team would be playing on September 22nd in the quarterfinals, the Indian (W) team would also directly play in the quarterfinals, and there is a possibility that both teams would face each other in the finals on September 26th if both teams manage to win their semi-final match. Pakistan’s women’s team has won gold medals in the last two editions held in 2010 and 2014, and this time they will be looking for a hat-trick.
Before Bismah Maroof, Earlier this month, in a shocking decision, a young player of the Pakistan women’s team, Ayesha Naseem, announced her retirement from international cricket. She was just 18 years old at the time of her retirement. The reason for taking such a decision was religious, as she wanted to live her life according to Islam. Now Bismah Maroof has opted out of the Asian Games in 2023. Pakistan’s side has suffered setbacks, but with young talents in the team, they can still play their best in the Asian Games.
