Pakistan’s women cricketer Ayesha Naseem announces her retirement from cricket at 18.
Pakistan’s women cricketer Ayesha Naseem bid farewell to cricket to live her life according to Islam. The 18-year-old was once praised by many legendary cricketers, one of whom was “The Sultan of Swing” Wasim Akram, who called her a “Serious Talent”. According to some reports, Ayesha Naseem informed the Pakistan Cricket Board on Thursday about her decision to leave International cricket. She was slowly becoming a regular appearance for Pakistan’s women’s side in white-ball cricket. She reportedly told the Pakistan Cricket Board about her shocking decision; the PCB is still silent on that, and as of now, there is no official declaration from the Pakistan Cricket Board side on the reported retirement of the player.
Ayesha Naseem, who made her international cricket debut in 2020, has played for Pakistan’s women’s side for 4 years; the last match she played was with Australia, where she was dismissed for a duck. In her short career, she primarily represented Pakistan in white-ball cricket and played 30 T20Is and 4 ODI matches, scoring more than 400 runs. Her Shocking retirement decision definitely put a brief stoppage to the progress of Pakistan Women Cricket, as a promising young talent who could become a more successful cricketer in the coming years would now remain out of the game.
Pakistan’s Women’s team hasn’t played any matches since the ICC T20 World Cup that happened in February 2023. Ayesha Naseem played a great innings against India Women in the group-stage game; she smashed unbeaten 43 runs off 25 balls to take her team to 150 runs, but India Women easily won the match with 7 wickets remaining. Pakistan will host South Africa next for a three-match T20I series. Here is what she told PCB, according to reports:
