ACC accepts the hybrid model, Pakistan and Sri Lanka will jointly host the Asia Cup 2023:
The Asia Cup 2023 is going to be held in Pakistan and Sri Lanka, as officially announced by the ACC. Pakistan’s hybrid model is now finally accepted by the ACC, and the continental event will be hosted jointly by Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 is going to be held in India this year, and arch rivals Pakistan and India will be seen in action before the big event in the Asia Cup 2023. Earlier, it was decided that this year’s Asia Cup would be hosted by Pakistan, but the BCCI opposed sending an Indian team to Pakistan because of security concerns.
Desperate Pakistan came up with a hybrid model in which an initial few matches, apart from Indian matches, will be organized by Pakistan and some matches will be held in a neutral venue, including the matches of India. Initially, the proposed plan was rejected by the ACC, and there were speculations that the entire tournament would be shifted to Sri Lanka and Pakistan would boycott the tournament, but finally, the hybrid model has been accepted by the ACC, and the Asia Cup 2023 would start on August 31st and last until September 17th. A total of 13 ODI matches would be played in the tournament, in which Pakistan would host 4 matches and Sri Lanka would host the rest.
“The tournament will be hosted in a hybrid model with four matches being held in Pakistan, and the remaining nine matches being played in Sri Lanka. The 2023 Edition will feature two groups, with two teams from each group qualifying for the Super Four stage. The top two teams from the Super Four stage will then face off in the final,”
Asian Cricket Council said.
There are six teams that are going to fight for the Asian title, and they are divided into two groups. Only two teams would qualify for the Super Four stage.
