“An ICC event without India vs Pakistan is unimaginable” Akash Chopra blasts at ICC WTC 3 schedule:
The ICC WTC final (2021–23) brought disappointment to the Indian fans as the team couldn’t pass the last phase to grab the ICC title. Australia came all guns blazing and dominated the WTC final from Day 1. They lifted the mace at the end of the WTC final (2021–23) by defeating India by 209 runs. India’s ICC trophy drought would take more time to get over. India won an ICC title a decade ago when MS Dhoni-led Team India won the ICC Champions Trophy in 2013, but even after reaching the WTC final twice, that too in two consecutive seasons of the championship, they failed to taste victory even in one of them.
As the ICC released the schedule of the World Test Championship (2022–25), Indian cricket expert Akash Chopra is not happy with the released schedule as it doesn’t have a single test match between India and Pakistan. In the cricket community, everyone knows how big the India-Pakistan match is in terms of attracting the masses, as the two nations arch rivalry would be seen on the field where supporters from both sides are cheering for their team, and a huge crowd brings more money to the table. But unfortunately, in the last two seasons, these two teams didn’t battle on the cricket ground, and this time as well, they are not going to play against each other. That is why Akash Chopra, on his YouTube channel, by showing his disappointment, said:
You don’t play against all teams. But this is WTC, it’s an ICC event. It has been 4 years now… can you imagine an ICC event without India vs Pakistan? This can never happen,”. It’s always at the start of the tournament so it gets off to a great start commercially. It gets the highest rating and people make money. So, is WTC not an ICC event?” Chopra continued.
Akash Chopra said.
So, is WTC not an ICC event?” Chopra continued. “It’s an ICC mace, they host the final. So, all the matches that take place in the cycle should be in the purview of the ICC. It will be 6 years, and you didn’t have a single India-Pakistan series.” This is also an ICC event. If it’s not, make it clear. Call it bilateral cricket and accept that you have made WTC just to glamorize Tests,”
