“lot of cricket left in me”, Ajinkya Rahane replied after his Test comeback as vice-captain.
India team current vice captain Ajinkya Rahane, ahead of the India vs. West Indies first test match on July 12, gave a witty reply to one of the questions asked about his comeback at this age. Ajinkya Rahane was quick to that and said
“Is age mein matlab? Main abhi bhi young hoon (What do you mean by at this age? I’m still young). There’s still a lot of cricket left in me,”
Rahane replied
Ajinkya Rahane would be the deputy of Rohit Sharma in the Test series against the West Indies, and the comeback he is having in the Indian team is nothing short of a movie story where the protagonist, when everybody was hoping that he would quit, bounces back, fights all odds, and earns respect. That’s what Ajinkya Rahane‘s comeback story is like. His IPL 2023 season was awesome as the 35-year-old batter lighted the stadium with his new version of scoring quick runs for his team, he donned the yellow jersey this time playing for Chennai Super Kings. He scored 326 runs and played a significant innings in the IPL 2023 final, which helped his team claim their fifth IPL title.
His IPL and domestic cricket performances helped him earn a spot in the team for the WTC final, and he proved the decision right by scoring valuable runs in the final. It will not be wrong to say that he was alone fighting for his team on the field during the final, though India lost the final by 209 runs. His impressive batting now earned him the deputy spot in the team, apart from Rahane. Young Yashasvi Jaiswal is most likely to be replacing Cheteshwar Pujara at number 3 as the latter didn’t get selected this time after his poor performance in test matches for India.
