“I knock him out, maybe in the first round” Ilia Topuria on Alexander Volkanovski, Alex hits back calling Topuria delusional

UFC 290 was one of the nights for Alexander Volkanovski, where he showed everyone why he is being called “The Great.” From defense to offense, from ground game to fight on feet, Alexander Volkanovski beat Yair Rodriguez in every aspect, and in the third round, he knocked out Rodriguez as Refree Herb Dean called a stop to the fight. Volkanovksi, after defeating Rodriguez and defending his featherweight title for the fifth time, called out Ilia Topuria, who was present in the arena that night. Both fighters even had a brief exchange of words when Volkanovski was on his way back from the octagon.

Topuria is one of the deadliest fighters in the featherweight division, and Volkanovski is interested in fighting him, but that is unlikely to happen soon as “The Great” suffered an arm injury during his preparation for the fight, revealed that he will be going to have surgery asap, and gave indications that his next opponent would be rising featherweight star Ilia Topuria. Ilia Topuria, while speaking to MMA Hour, expressed his opinion on the fight and said:

I always have confidence in myself, I don’t have any doubt that I can beat him pretty easy. People think it’s a tough fight, he says that I’m the easiest fight he’s gonna have in his whole career. My official prediction, I was thinking a lot about that. I was doing my imagination, I see me knocking him out in the first two rounds. I see myself knocking him out, maybe in the first round.

Featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski replied by saying.

There’s confidence, and then there’s delusional,”. I don’t mind the bloke, but I mean, yeah. Even with the things he says it’s, what he’s saying isn’t backed up, it just doesn’t make sense. He’s like, ‘Yeah I’d beat him first round because I did this’, like, have you watched me fight?”
