9 PFL athletes faced suspension after testing positive for banned substances.

On Wednesday, nine Professional Fighters League athletes got suspended after they tested positive for the banned substance. Fighters got banned after they tested positive for substances like drostanolone, furosemide, etc., as stated by the Nevada Athletic Commission. These nine fighters wins are now overturned as no-contests as part of the disciplinary action taken against them. There were actions taken against the PFL fighters before they got temporary suspensions, and the verdict on them could be announced potentially in the next meeting, which is going to happen in June.

There are famous names on the list of banned athletes, such as Thiago Santos, who was a UFC title challenger and now is the champion of the light heavyweight division of the league. Thiago Santos tested positive for clomiphene, and besides him, Cezar Ferreira also tested positive for the same substance mentioned, plus he has taken 19-norandrostorone, which is a metabolite.

Several other fighters, such as Bruno Cappeloza, who got the suspension for taking drostanolone, which is an anabolic steroid, and ex-UFC fighter Krzystof Jotko, were suspended after testing positive for clomiphene, which is used as a fertility drug and alters the testosterone level in men. Both fighters need to pay the required fine before competing again in the PFL. Featherweight Alejandro Flores has his name on the list as he took furosemide, which is a diuretic. Mohammad Kakhreddine and Rizvan Kuniev are also on that list.

“PFL has been notified by the Nevada State Athletic Commission that several fighters who competed in PFL 2023 Regular Season events this past April have been temporarily suspended until further review by the Commission,” the PFL statement read. “The PFL has a zero-tolerance policy related to the usage of banned substances and complies with U.S. State Athletic Commission requirements. Further, as the PFL moves towards the highest level of testing and compliance in the sport, PFL is engaged with USADA on the implementation of its athlete anti-doping program.”
