Rankireddy and Shetty won the Korean Open in Kitty against World No. 1 opposition
Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty won a hard-fought match against the World No. 1 Fajar Alfian and Muhamad Rian Ardianto by 17-21, 21-13, 21-14 to win Korean Open Super 500.
The Indian men pair once again showed their skill and coordination in the final to win their fourth title in the year 2023 as they defeated the top-ranked team. During the tournament, they won against World No. 2 and 5 in the Korean Open Super 500 that was played between July 18-23, 2023.
In the first set, the Indian Duo Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty were down by 17-21, as the ranked first duo Fajar and Ardianto showed their skill to dominate the first set but then comes the Indian duo resistance as they just thrashed the All England Champion duo by 21-13 in the second set which makes the match more interesting as both duo set onto 1-1.
The Indian Duo clearly dominated the final set as they won the set by 21-14 to clinch the Korean Open Super 500, and it was their fourth title of the year, including the Swiss Open, Asian Championships, and Indonesia Open.
The win on Sunday makes the duo up their rank and claim the World No. 2, and in the next week, they will travel to Japan to play in the Japan Open. It was their sixth victory on the run, and the last time they lost was in Singapore Open, in which they reached the final but lost to Japanese duo T. Saito and A. Koga.
The Indian duo won every match in the Korean Open till the final one in a straight set, which is an amazing feat by them, and even in the semi-final, they defeated World No. 2 W.K. Lian and C.Wang in a straight set by 21-24, 24-22.
