Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei make history at the Yang Tzu Tai Open, winning after 17 years with their coach and former great international Nova Widianto.

Malaysia’s Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei made history by becoming the first Malaysian pair to win the Taiwan Open in 17 years. World No. 19 Tang Jie-Ee Wei defeated home pair Chiu Hsiang-chieh-Lin Xiao min 21-12, 21-8 at Tian-mu Arena on Sunday, under the coaching of Malaysia’s former great international Nova Widianto.

Nova was himself a part of this competition over a decade ago, winning it with his mixed doubles partner, Liliyana Natsir back in 2006. As their success inspired many aspiring badminton players in Malaysia and around the world, Nova has now successfully coached Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei to take the same title after Koo Kien Keat-Wong Pei Tty’s 2004 win.

The Taiwanese Open is a prestigious international badminton competition held annually since 1981, with players from all around the globe participating in men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles categories. This year marked the 39th edition of this tournament and it was especially competitive as many top contenders were present like Korea’s Kim So Yeong – Kong Hee Yong and Japan’s Yuta Watanabe – Arisa Higashino.

Malaysia is known for its passion for badminton and Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei’s success has proved it once again. Nova Widianto, who is now the mixed doubles coach of Malaysia, has played a key role in this achievement and his efforts have been applauded by fans across the country.

Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei’s win was expected to give a new direction to Malaysian badminton and encourage more youngsters to pursue their dreams in this sport with Nova as their mentor. This victory has also highlighted Malaysia’s stature in international badminton tournaments like Taiwan Open adding another golden chapter to its legacy of excellence.
