Indian Badminton team started with a loss in the Sudirman Cup against the Chinese Taipei 1-4
India started off with a loss against the Chinese Taipei by 1-4 in the Sudhirman Cup day 1, and now they need to win every match to keep their hopes high for the title.
The first match of day 1 was a mixed double in which the Indian pair Tanisha Crasto and K Sai Prateek lost against the Yang Po-Husan and Hu Ling Fang by 21-18, 24-26, 6-21. After that, HS Prannoy lost to Chou Tien Chen by 19-21, 15-21 in the male singles. However, HS Prannoy is ranked number 9 in the world right now, and Chou Tien Chen is ranked 5 in the world, so it was not an upset, but still Indian team hoped for a closer battle.
Chinese Taipei went 2-0 straight after both won, and then in the 3rd match, it was Indian best player PV Sindhu’s turn to give some hope to the Indian team who went up against the former world number one ranked player Tzu Ying who gave Sindhu tough fight and won the match by 21-14, 18-21, 21-17 to give her team 3-0 lead.
It was all about keeping pride, but then Lee Chia Hsin and Teng Chun Hsun won their match against Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty by 21-13, 17-21, 21-18 in favor of the Chinese men’s in men’s double to give Chinese Taipei lead of 4 in 5 match contest.
In the last match, Tressa Jolly and P Gayatri Gopichand somehow saved the humiliation of a clean sweep by Chinese Taipei as they won the match by 15-21, 21-18, 21-13 to give one point to India to end the score line to 1-4 in Chinese Taipei favor.
It is going to be a must-win match against Malaysia for the Indian Badminton team if they want to stay in the Sudirman Cup 2023.
