Indian Badminton Team for the 2023 Asian Games Announced; PV Sindhu, Kidambi Srikanth and More Lead Contingent.

The Indian badminton team for the 2023 Asian Games was announced on Sunday, after four days of selection trials at the Jwala Gutta Academy of Excellence in Hyderabad. Former world No. 1 Kidambi Srikanth, Commonwealth Games 2022 champion Lakshya Sen and Ashmita Chaliha sealed their spots in the team.

The 19-member Indian badminton contingent for the 2023 Asian Games will include 10 men and nine women players. Representing India in singles events will be PV Sindhu (women’s singles), HS Prannoy (men’s singles) and Kidambi Srikanth and Lakshya Sen (mixed doubles). Ashmita Chaliha will be a part of the women’s singles division.

In the men’s doubles event, India will be represented by Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy, while Gayatri Gopichand and Treesa Jolly will partner in women’s doubles. In mixed doubles, the pairing will be between Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Ashmita Chaliha, while Tanisha Crasto has been selected to appear in both women’s and mixed doubles events.

The 19-member Indian badminton team was chosen by a panel comprising of Chief National Coach Pullela Gopichand, National Coach Jwala Gutta, Coaches Anup Sridhar and Uday Pawar. The selection trials were conducted at the academy founded by ace shuttler Jwala Gutta in Hyderabad.

Speaking about the team selected for the 2023 Asian Games, Chief National Coach Pullelaopichand said, “We have a strong team with some of the best players in the world. We are sure that they will do their best and make India proud.”

The Indian badminton team is expected to perform well at the Asian Games 2023, which will be held in Hangzhou, China from August 21 to September 5. With some of the world’s best badminton players on board, India has high hopes for a successful event.
