Tendulkar and Lara Honoured at SCG
For any cricket fan visiting the Sydney Cricket Ground, there’s a new landmark to behold. The Lara-Tendulkar Gates have been unveiled, named in honour of two of the sport’s greatest ever players. The gates mark Sachin Tendulkar‘s 50th birthday and West Indies legend Brian Lara’s stunning innings of 277 in 1993. The SCG has always been a special ground for Tendulkar, who recalls it as his favourite away from India. It’s where he made his Test debut and has some of his fondest on-field memories. The gates provide a lasting tribute to two of the game’s most talented batsmen, and all visiting players will pass through them to access the field of play.
The Sydney Cricket Ground, a hallowed turf for cricket fans across the globe, has become the perfect spot for many renowned players to embark on their journey towards becoming legends. Recently, Brian Lara expressed his gratitude towards the ground, calling it an honour to have been associated with it in the past. With his 277-run innings being the highlight of his career at the Ground, Lara reminisced about the special memories he shared with his family on the field. And now, with Cricket Australia’s timely gesture of recognising former greats, the Sydney Cricket Ground will continue to inspire players for generations to come.
