Shubman Gill, the star right-handed batter of the Indian cricket team, has so far climbed the ladder by setting records, and with his sublime form and batting intellect, he is regularly representing the Indian cricket team in international cricket formats. Shubman Gill’s Childhood and Life Before Cricket:

Shubman Gill was born on the 8th of September 1999 in Fazilka District of Punjab, India, to Lakhwinder Gill (his father) and Keart Gill (his mother), and as per his father, he started copying some shots of cricket at a young age of 3. Seeing his talent, his father made a turf pitch on his farm so that Shubman could practise more, and later his family moved to Mohali to provide Shubman better coaching facilities. His father also wanted to be a cricketer but didn’t get that guidance, so he lived his dreams through his son.

Domestic Career:

Shubman Gill got selected for the Under-16 Punjab Cricket Team when he was just 11 years old. Later on, he had his List A debut in the year 2016–17 for Punjab in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. He made his first-class debut in the year 2017 in the Ranji Trophy, and in his second match, he scored a century. A year later, he was picked up by the Kolkata Knight Riders for the 2018 IPL season.

International Career so far:

In 2017, Shubman Gill became part of the India U19 cricket squad and played some vital innings for his team that helped team India win the U19 cricket world cup of 2017. Seeing his form and class, he was named India’s vice-captain for the 2018 U19 world cup, and he proved his worth in that year as well, ending up as the top scorer for the team, earning him the player of the tournament award.


Shubman Gill had his One-Day International debut in the year 2019 playing against New Zealand and got the chance to play in the fourth ODI match of the series but failed to impress as he got dismissed after scoring just nine runs. In the same year, while playing for India team A, he scored a double century against West Indies team A. After his splendid innings, he got selected for the upcoming test series against South Africa, but he failed to make his name in the playing XI. In 2023, when he was playing against New Zealand, he scored a double century.


Shubman Gill’s test debut happened in the year 2020 against the mighty Australians, but Shubman Gill was in sublime form back then and helped India seal the second test of the series. Later, in the final test match of the series, he played his best innings so far in test cricket, making 91 runs that helped India win the series against Australia.


Gill made his international T20 debut against Sri Lanka in the year 2023, but on his debut he managed to score only 7 runs; later on, when he became part of the T20 squad against New Zealand, he scored his first century on February 1st, 2023.

IPL Career of Shubman Gill:

Shubman Gill’s IPL career started in the year 2018 when he was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders for 1.80 crores. He later became part of the new IPL franchise Gujarat Titans in the year 2022 and played some great innings for his team, and his great form helped him in retaining the IPL contract from the same franchise in the year 2023 as well.

  • He is the 5th Indian batsman to score a double century in an ODI.
  • Shubhman Gill is also the 5th Indian batter to score a century in all three formats of international cricket.
