Heinrich Klassen took his team to a famous victory while hitting his maiden MLC ton.
Heinrich Klassen hit his maiden MLC ton as the Seattle Orcas chased the 195-run target with four balls to spare against MI New York, finishing as table toppers in the inaugural season of MLC. This was the first ton by a batter in Major League Cricket 2023. The South African wicketkeeper batter Heinrich Klassen hit 7 sixes and 9 fours to score his century with a strike rate of 250 and remained unbeaten for 110 runs. He took his team to the victory, though both Seattle Orcas and MI New York have qualified for the playoffs. With such a performance, Heinrich Klassen and his team would take confidence with them for their playoff match against the Texas Super Kings.
MI New York, while batting first, scored 194 runs in 20 overs, Nicholas Pooran scored a fiery half century, and the skipper Keiron Pollard hit 34 runs. Pooran, in his quick fire, hit 68 runs in 34 balls and took the team to a big score, but Heinrich Klassen’s innings was the highlight of the match, and his teammate Nauman Anwar also played a sublime innings of 51 runs for his team. While chasing the big target, the Seattle Orcas kept losing wickets at regular intervals, but Klassen showed resistance towards the bowling attack of MI New York.
MI New York’s Trent Boult bowled brilliantly, taking four wickets in his spell. By taking 3 wickets in the last over of his spell, he tried to shift the momentum towards his team as the Seattle Orcas were 8 down after his over, but the South African fought till the end and scored 110 runs. He hit a massive six to secure a win for his team. The Seattle Orcas will face the Texas Super Kings in the playoffs, which are going to happen on July 28. The final of the inaugural MLC season will happen on July 31.
