Rohit Sharma goes past Virender Sehwag and Sunil Gavaskar as an opener in International cricket.

India’s captain Rohit Sharma, with his century on the second day of the first test match against the West Indies, achieved this amazing feat as an opener for the Indian team, as he now surpassed the batting legends Virender Sehwag and Sunil Gavaskar in terms of scoring 50+ runs as an opener for the Indian team. Rohit Sharma hit his 10th international test cricket century, scoring 103 runs, and after making fifty-plus scores for the 102nd time, he is now behind the great Sachin Tendulkar in hitting 50+ runs as an opener, as the God of Cricket scored 50+ runs 120 times as an opener in international cricket. Virender Sehwag and Sunil Gavaskar both scored 101 runs or more as openers.

Rohit Sharma still has the opportunity to surpass Sachin Tendulkar in terms of 50+ runs as an opener, as there are a lot of matches scheduled in the coming months, including the ICC CWC 2023, which is going to happen in India in October and November. India won their first test match against the West Indies by 141 runs and an inning. Youngster Yashasvi Jaiswal and wicketkeeper batter Ishan Kishan had their debuts in test cricket, where the former scored 171 runs and the latter opened his international test cricket run account and scored just 1 run before Rohit Sharma decided to declare the Indian innings at 421/5.

India has taken a 1-0 lead in the two-match test series, and the team is now preparing for the next test match, which will be happening at Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain, Trinidad, from July 20–24. India would be looking to seal the series with a victory, and the home team would be planning a comeback by leveling the series. So far, India’s start to its WTC (2023–25) journey is going in the right direction, and they would like to continue the positive momentum.
