Jamahal Hill vacates the UFC light heavyweight title following an Achilles Tendon Injury.

Jamahal Hill recently relinquished his UFC light heavyweight title, and now the title is vacant. Jamahal Hill won the title in January 2023 after defeating Glover Teixeira at UFC 283 in Brazil; ironically, he also got the title shot after Ji Procházka vacated the title following a shoulder injury, and the UFC fixed a title fight between him and Glover Teixeira, which he won by unanimous decision. By uploading a video on his YouTube channel on Thursday night, he shared the information in which he spoke about his achilles tendon injury. He ruptured his tendon, and the recovery would take months of rehab, so following Ji Procházka, he also vacated the title so that someone eligible could get the shot.

The thing to note here is that Jamahal Hill vacated it after getting promised that he would be getting the title shot immediately once he gets recovered from the injury. Now the UFC would have to decide who it would give the opportunity to fight for the title, as there are some great light heavyweights waiting for a title shot. The UFC has so far not made an official comment on the situation, and fight fans are expecting something from the UFC soon. On his video, Jamahal Hill said these statements:

I have unfortunately suffered an injury. I’ve ruptured my Achilles. Yeah,”. This is one of those things that happens, you know, it’s a tough injury. It will require surgery. It will require time, rehab, and things for me to be out for a while. So also with that, you know, I was given an opportunity, I was given a blessing, you know, and that came at the misfortune of someone else. Jiri Prochazka was the champion, and he suffered an injury…he gave up the belt to allow the division to keep moving forward. To keep it entertaining, to make sure that people had a champion. And I’ll do the same.

Right now, the biggest thing is focusing on my recovery, focusing on getting back to 100 perfect,” he concluded. “I need to take some time to focus on my health and make sure that I’m 100 perfect and I’m gonna fight it.”
