R. Ashwin achieved this unique feat in test cricket on the first day of the match against the West Indies.

The spin ace of the Indian team, Ravichandran Ashwin, has added another achievement to his bowling career as he became the first Indian bowler and fifth in the history of cricket to take wickets of father and son both in test matches. R. Ashwin achieved this unique feat during the first day of the first test match of India vs. West Indies in Roseau, Dominica. He picked Shivnarine Chanderpaul’s son Tagenarine Chanderpaul’s wicket when he was bowling his 3rd over; the ball spun a little bit and hit the off stump, beating Tagenarine Chanderpaul. This is not the first time a bowler has taken wicket of Chanderpauls; earlier, Australian pace bowler Mitchell Starc and South African off-spinner Simon Harmer also dismissed the father-son duo in test matches; now Ravichandran Ashwin is added to that list.

When R. Ashwin made his Test debut back in 2011, he managed to dismiss Shivnarine Chanderpaul, and in 2023, he picked up his son’s wicket in the West Indies. India on the first day of the test match displayed a dominant performance as the spin attack of the Indian team shined, where R. Ashwin picked 5 wickets and Ravindra Jadeja picked 3 with his fifer. R. Ashwin has now surpassed England’s swing sensation James Anderson, as Ashwin now has 33 fifers in the traditional format of the game, whereas Anderson is on 32. West Indies were all out after making 150 runs, and India, in return, were 80/0 at the end of the day 1. Youngster Yashasvi Jaiswal made his International debut against the West Indies.

“Thought it was a pretty good performance. There was a bit of moisture on the pitch earlier but it started to spin later. Saw on the TV as well that it turned more later. Had to adapt early. It was a bit dry, have to get the pace right to trouble the batsmen. International cricket is all about adapting to different conditions. With so many leagues around, we can get carried away with a few performances in these leagues but international cricket is different”
