“Rinku Singh could have been a better choice” Akash Chopra’s statement on India’s T20I squad against West Indies.
Since BCCI announced India’s T20I squad for the 5 T20 match series against West Indies, one name that has made headlines is Rinku Singh, as he was left out of the team and the left-hand batter has to wait for his debut in International cricket despite being one of the names that has shined in the IPL 2023. Rinku Singh’s performance in the IPL was praised not just by his teammates but by ex-cricketers as well, as he managed to win the match for his team numerous times. The selectors gave a chance to Mumbai Indians left-handed batter Tilak Varma in the 15-player T20 squad after his performance as a middle-order batter for the Mumbai Indians.
Akash Chopra opined that Rinku Singh would be a better option if the team required a batter in the lower or middle order, as Tilak Verma doesn’t bat in the lower order, and in the entire IPL season he batted in the top order at number 3 or 4, but in the team that was announced by the BCCI, there are some big players on the list for that spot in the batting order, like Surya Kumar Yadav and Sanju Samson. Rinku Singh will not be a part of the team in the ODI and Test matches so far, but there are rumors of him being a part of the India tour of Ireland, whose fixtures were already out, as Team India will be playing three T20I matches against Ireland.
“In the middle order – Suryakumar Yadav, Sanju Samson, Tilak Varma and Hardik Pandya. I don’t think the team is thinking of playing Tilak Varma at No. 3. The two wicketkeepers that they have picked in Samson and Ishan Kishan are far better suited to play in the No. 3 position. Tilak Verma played better at the top of the order in IPL. If they were searching for a player to bat after Hardik Pandya, then Rinku Singh could have been a better choice unless Tilak Varma will play at No. 3
