India won the SAFF Championship after defeating Kuwait in penalties by 5-4, Sunil Chhetri won Golden Boot, Golden Ball
SAFF Championship 2023 title goes to India after they won the final against Kuwait in penalties in which Gurpreet Singh became the hero to save the last kick of Hajiah, the captain of Kuwait, to give India victory. Sunil Chhetri was awarded with Golden Boot and Golden Ball in the SAFF Championship after scoring 4 goals in 5 matches.
It was an exciting and competitive match between the two sides as both ended up 1-1 till the end after extra time was played. The first goal was scored by the Kuwait player Shabaib Al Khaldi who scored the goal in the 14th minute of the match. It was a great interplay by the Kuwaiti players to break India’s defensive line. In the end, Al Khaldi was unmarked in the box and put the ball inside the India goalpost.
In the 16th minute, India broke through with a long ball, and Chhangte had a chance to score after Chhetri struck a powerful shot which was saved by the Kuwait keeper Marzouq. Chhangte had a chance to put India in the lead in the 16th minute but failed.
In the 36th minute India equalised with Chhangte goal that clearly broken the defense of Kuwait wide open. Indian Footabll team now won 9 SAFF championship and now they are going to play Kings Cup that is going to happen in Thailand and after that they will go to Qatar for AFC Asian Cup in which 24 teams will participate and India is in group B in which Australia, Syria and Uzbekistan will play against India.
It is going to be quite tough group because all team are above then India in term of skill and ranking. Australia is one of the strongest team in the competition ranking 29 which is quite amazing to reach to the next round it is going to be quite hard for India but after winning three cups recently they might have a chance.
