“He performs consistently in Shorter formats” Saurav Ganguly wants BCCI to keep an eye on this spin bowler.

BCCI’s former president and former India captain Saurav Ganguly has recently advised BCCI to understand the importance of wrist spinners for the upcoming ICC World Cup 2023, as the entire tournament is going to happen in India. Wrist spinners would play an important role in the upcoming World Cup, and he recommends Yuzvendra Chahal‘s name, as according to Saurav Ganguly, the right-handed wrist spinner has performed consistently in the shorter formats and could play a vital role in India’s squad for the World Cup 2023. India, after the WTC final loss against Australia, will try to bounce back from the defeat on the upcoming West Indies tour, where they have to play Test, ODI, and T20 series starting on July 12.

Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma have ample time until the World Cup in 2023 to nurture the spin attack of the Indian team. Players like Ravi Bishnoi, Kuldeep Yadav, and Yuzvendra Chahal are on the list, and management has to perfect the spin department before the big ICC event in October. Saurav Ganguly, while sharing his thoughts with Star Sports, said that:

(Ravi) Bishnoi and Kuldeep (Yadav) are there but (Yuzvendra) Chahal somehow misses big tournaments. He performs extremely consistently in shorter formats, whether it is 20-over or 50-over. It is important to keep an eye on him.

Further, he mentioned the importance of having a wrist spinner in the team and how spinners had contributed in past events. He mentioned the name of Piyush Chawla and the role he played in the 2011 ICC World Cup.

“When you will play Australia, England or South Africa, a wrist-spinner makes a difference in these conditions. In 2011 there was Piyush Chawla, who bowled well. When we went to South Africa in 2007, there also our wrist-spinners bowled well along with the fast bowlers. Harbhajan Singh was in that team. I feel it will be extremely important to keep a wrist-spinner in Indian conditions,”
